On the Island there are only 10 large houses that were built in the time when the industry and the smelter had its flowering time from 1913 to the closure of the smelter in 1975. Sam Eyde, who has managed the industrial development of several places in Norway, also had his hangout and workspace here. This island is full of history. The museum at Eydehavn has recreated this time where workers and function lived their own social lives. The officers lived on Buøya, with a barrier separating them from the mainland.
