Description

Nestled beautifully close to the foot of Craigmore mountain, its protected ancient forest, Loch Ard and forest; Avondhu House is a picturesque Victorian Villa of traditional character, set amidst large mature private gardens combining woodland, mountain and river views in the heart of the Lomond & Trossachs National Park. Overlooking Loch Ard’s Avondhu river (Scotland shortest river) the Duchry and the river Forth, you'll find an abundance of outdoor activities and wild nature on your doorstep The space Avondhu House sits on a private plot of land providing an abundance of outdoor space in which to dine, relax and take in nature. Boasting river and mountain views, ancient forests, mature gardens, meadows, a stream and song birds throughout the day, it's truly a delight. Occasional vistors to the garden include wild goats and deer The house itself is very spacious and retains original victorian period features throughout. It has two dining rooms, a living room, an office/reading room and five large bedrooms. Relax by the open fire in the living room or take advantage of the outdoor bbq area and patios, there's an option for any mood. As well as being in an area known for outdoor pursuits and the most stunning nature Scotland has to offer, the location is also popular with star gazers (due to light pollution restrictions) so do pop out on the flat roof at night for a gaze at the stars against the back drop of the hooting owls and the sound of a gentle stream Guest access We keep a small amount of space private to store our private items (Garage and some cupboards in the house) There is space on our private driveway for 4 or possibly 5 Cars Other things to note The ground floor of the house and front patio has step free access, as are the downstairs bedroom, the wet-room/shower, both dining rooms, office/reading room, the living room, toilet and the kitchen. The other 4 bedrooms and the bathroom are upstairs, there are two handrails on the stairs. There are corded blinds on the property, please keep this in mind in regards to children’s safety If you require a high chair, cot, gate or other baby proofing or child security measures you must ask before booking. Private drive way with parking for 4 or 5 cars The western side garden has a bbq available in the summer (please request in advance of your stay if you would like to use it), serving area and dining area, with barn door side access to the kitchen and an indoor dining area. South facing and sheltered, this area is a great sun trap for afternoon sun. The front patio area has a chiminea and decorative mushroom carvings, carved from a fallen sequoia redwood that was struck by lightning. These are artisanal decorative pieces, very heavy, and should not be moved There is a small stream on the property that goes underground in the back garden (north western corner, just beyond the rowing boat). All pets and children must be under the watch of a responsible adult when they are in the gardens, at all times. We encourage the growth of natural meadows in parts of the back garden. The meadows are clearly distinguishable by the longer grass (meadows) and wild flowers. Here there are natural rock formations, wood carvings, ornaments, trees, burrows etc. Please stay out of the long grass areas (meadows) for your safety and as well as for the plants and creatures that live there. Our home dates from the Victorian era (built circa 1880s) and largely furnished with antiques, mostly artisanal, hand made and often heavy furniture. By nature of design, such furniture if climbed upon or pulled roughly could topple. Please keep this in mind when considering booking, particularly in regards to child and/or pet safety. If you are unsure of anything at all please ask first before requesting to book. Children should be supervised by a responsible adult at all times. The house has original victorian sash windows, some containing the original hand blown glass. These are delicate and should not be opened or closed by children. When multiple windows and doors are left open, a gust of wind can cause doors and/or windows to close abruptly. However, if secured open carefully and responsibly it’s lovely to allow the air through on a summer day.
