Description

As you arrive through the wooden gate and park up; you may hear the trickle of a waterfall as you get out of your car. A few steps away you'll see our white washed cottage nestled under the old oak trees ready for your stay. This has been our much loved old family home that we've all enjoyed for many years. For us and the friends who've visited over this time it's been a truly special place hidden in the woods where we've made many happy memories. We hope you'll find your home from home here! The space An open plan living room with a large fireplace and log burning stove greet you with a comfortable sofa and 2 matching large comfy armchairs as well as a dining table area with seats for having dinners or playing board games on. The open place living/dining area leads through to a galley style kitchen with easily cleaned worktop surfaces, ample cupboard space for groceries and supplies, a fairly small fridge/freezer (which we find encourages us to eat fresh food as much as possible!) and washing up/drying area. A small entrance behind the kitchen leads to the dry food store/larder space and small downstairs toilet with a second large wash basin with the washing machine, tumble dryer and microwave all located between the two. Walking through the kitchen you then arrive to our large open plan conservatory which has a second smaller table for dining or to sit quietly enjoying reading in the peaceful sunshine, pattering of rain or the cool of the evening. From the conservatory you can step out onto the grassy lawn and cobbled patio area both of which tend to catch the daytime and early evening sunshine. Most of the rest of the 2 acres of woodland are yours to explore. Guest access You'll have total free run of the cottage and most of the woodland surrounding it, however we currently have to clarify that the wooden bridge is currently out of bounds because it is broken at the time of writing (we do intend on repairing it when we next get a chance however!). We also ask to please leave the little shed space area alone as there are some stacked logs and old pieces of metalwork which could prove hazardous if they were to fall. Other things to note In case you were wondering, you will see the Welsh name for Under The Oaks at the entrance (and you'll receive this in your welcome email as well) however we've kept the name hidden in order to keep the cottage secluded and hidden as much as we can for privacy reasons. The barn on the land was once a local lemonade factory (not for guest use and does have 2 bees nests so please stay away from the front and the building sides furthest away from the cottage - we've never had any incidents but we don't want there to be a first!). Both it and the cottage, were in really sorry states when we first arrived (think 10 metre brambles and stinging nettles covering both buildings!) and were basically built from mud, stone and sticks but, over the decades we've managed to restore and revive them both and are now ready to share them with other folk (like yourself) in the hope that you are able to experience a small bit of the joy and great memories we've been able to share here. We've written as much detail as we can in this listing, however always feel free to contact Callum about any information, details, recommendations or anything else before you book; he'll always do his best to help and ensure you have as truly fantastic a trip as we wish for everyone who comes to stay can possibly have! If you have an electric vehicle we do have a charging point but please let us know in advance so Callum can ensure it is turned on and ready for use, we usually ask for a donation (about £5 a day if you weren't sure) towards the electricity costs to help us. Thank you so much for your interest! Oh and finally, although Callum manages communication and the general running of Tanydderwen, we do employ as many other local folk as we can to help us with cleaning, laundry, logs, gardening and maintenance so we always ask that if you found the place clean and tidy enough for your stay, please write this in your review as we provide a bonus to all the folk who help us as a thank you each and every time - we believe that sharing really is caring afterall. Don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like, Callum and family
