The Refuge: Private Office, Close to Downtown
Description
Let The Refuge take care of you this summer... Enjoy the walkable neighborhood. Relax in our claw foot tub, or stretch out with a book in the back yard. Watch the sunset from the front porch, cocktail in hand. We have a fully fenced back yard oasis with grill to hang with your friends & fur babies. Close to it all. Hit the refresh button on your life at The Refuge! UNCG: 1 min GAC/Coliseum: 4 min Downtown: 5 min Cone Hospital: 7 min NC A&T: 9 min HP Furniture Market: 24 min The space REFRESHING INSIDE & OUT Our charming 1938 Craftsman sits on top of a hill in a walkable neighborhood. She's been updated with all the modern conveniences (open floor plan, wi-fi, filtered sink water) but still retains her natural charm with high ceilings, cast iron soaking tub, muted tones, tons of natural light, and wood accents to ground you in the traditional Arts & Crafts Movement way: through close encounters with mother nature. The Refuge is the perfect spot to retreat. There's table-top games, a backyard grill, large TVs, a cocktail set & beautiful grand table in the middle of it all that invites everyone to gather together and have some fun at this home away from home. As for the outside, the big backyard of The Refuge is completely surrounded with a privacy fence for fun outdoor time around the fire pit with a glass of wine at night; or grill up some burgers for lunch. You'll feel like you're in the country in the middle of the city. PET FRIENLY I love traveling with my keeshond and enjoy hosting well-behaved pets. If you're bringing a fur baby there will be a non-refundable pet fee of $100/pet added at check out to cover wear and tear. If you do not disclose your pet, we will charge the $100 fee after check-in and reserve the right to ask you to leave without refund if you are unwilling to pay. My pet specific rules are simple : - guests must leash their dogs when outside at all times except in the fenced back yard - dogs must do their business outside (no pee pads) and all pet poo must be cleaned up immediately and disposed of in the outside trash can (the green one) - any property damage must be reported immediately and paid for by the guest QUIET SPACES TO WORK & REST You may opt to spend your days tucked away in the private reading room off the back of the house away from the rest of the crowd, with a beautiful wooden desk equipped with all the supplies you'll need to get things done (yes--including internet at full throttle!). Then emerge at night to connect with family and friends. We have a sound machine to The Refuge, thinking of traveling nurses, swimmers, and others who need solid, deep sleep in order to work their super powers during the day. Let us know if you need the curtains adjusted in the back bedroom for daytime sleeping and we'll prepare them before your arrival. The Refuge is located less than 2 miles (5 minutes) from Wesley Long Hospital and 3.4 miles (7 minutes) from Moses Cone Hospital. Imagine a pre-dinner, front porch martini (full mixing set & glasses provided) people-watching the foot traffic. Better yet, put on your walking shoes and head down to "The Corner," a 15 minute walk, for dinner at any of a half dozen locally-owned bars & restaurants (I recommend them all!) The privacy-fenced backyard has a patio, table & fire pit if you'd rather feel like you're on a wooded retreat in the midst of the city. WE THOUGHT OF ALL THE DETAILS The fully equipped kitchen is ready for coffee & tea drinkers alike with a kettle, Keurig, press and drip options. You’ll find a full set of non-anodized cookware, sharp knives, pizza pans, waffle iron & a Ninja Bullet food processor. We even have a garlic press! A space-saver high chair/toddler seat, plastic dinnerware & cups will help parents of young children to relax. Our mattresses in the two main bedrooms are 12" thick, pressure relieving fiberglass-free Zinus memory foam. The house is perfectly suited for 4 people but if you are budget-conscious, it will sleep up to 6 in a pinch (we keep twin-sized bedding on hand in case our guests want to use the couch or chaise lounge to sleep on). FLEX SPACES DESIGNED FOR EVERY DESIRE The bungalow has 2 queen sized bedrooms with 40” Roku TV’s plus a secluded reading room tucked in the back of the house off the kitchen with a stocked desk & chaise lounge, perfect for reading or working. Let us know if you want the chaise lounge made up as a bed so you can use this room as a bedroom (no TV). We'd be happy to make it up for you beforehand. Also, feel free to make up the couch in the living room if you need to squeeze in a sixth person. There's an extra set of twin sheets stored in the coffee table. The Roku TV in the living room (50") lets you connect to your own streaming accounts to pick up where you left off. I give discounts for weekly and monthly bookings (discount shows automatically when you put in your dates). And I love hosting digital nomads especially during the winter months, which is a natural lull for AirBnB bookings in Greensboro. Curious about how The Refuge came to be? Look me up on IG to learn more and about other projects: therefreshbutton Guest access You'll have access to the entire house, front garden, back yard, as well as the basement for doing your laundry. There is a shed and an owner's closet which are not accessible to guests. The driveway is shared with our neighbors. Other things to note Here’s what you need to know about parking and accessibility... Our house shares a steep driveway with a neighbor. There’s a retaining wall on one side that makes for a tight fit when driving up and you might feel a little nervous the first time you try it. It’s advisable to turn the car around before heading back down to the street. But after one go, you'll surely feel like a pro! For those with mobility concerns, you’ll want to get inside the house from this parking space, not from the street. From there, just walk through the back fence to the back door. There’s only one step up from the patio to the deck via this route. The free on-street parking (with a 2-hour limit during weekdays) requires an ascent of 18 stairs (most without a handrail) up from the sidewalk.
