We (your primary host, Jake, and wife/co-host Lauren) uphold the original vision of Airbnb; offering guests something completely unique, while being your local experts who can help at every turn. I am proudly fourth generation to work in the hospitality industry, and a graduate of Indiana University’s Cultural Heritage Tourism Management program. After booking with us, guests are sent a short survey where we get to know more about the kind of stay you’re looking for. Here we’ll ask how you’d like the suite set up, how hands on or off you’d like us to be, and how we can be of service to you before, during, and after your stay. We’re committed to providing a truly unique and personalized experience. We regularly help with trip planning, giving tours of the property and gardens, assisting with camp fires, decorating for birthdays and anniversaries, arranging flowers, casual chats over tea, and portering luggage. We offer a range of wellness experiences, from guided meditations, forest bathing instruction, and we’ve partnered with a wonderful local massage and bodywork therapist (info below). We’re also just as happy to stay out of your way entirely; you’d be surprised we’re even here. We’re here to assist with any kind of stay you’re looking for. Unlike too many rentals on this platform, we have no lame check out “chores” - no stripping beds, or starting laundry, taking out the trash, we handle all of that and more. We just ask you put things back where you found them, and load the dishwasher. That’s it! We provide a complimentary bundle of wood, and more is available for a modest price. For your convenience, a wagon to easily transport outdoor gear around the property. •THE KITCHEN• The kitchen is fully equipped with a range of essentials including an enormous fridge, chef's knives, a full set of pots and pans, baking sheets, and a spice collection, and an electric kettle (perfect for making tea or noodles). Best of all, everything (except the chef's knives) is dishwasher safe, ensuring quick and easy cleanup. We provide complimentary coffee, tea, sugar, and cream, along with a drip machine and French press. •ACCESSIBILITY• While not ADA compliant, the space is well-suited for guests with minor mobility difficulties, and we have comfortably hosted wheelchair users in the past. There are no steps leading into or within the suite, except for a 5.5” shower edge. All doorways are at least 32”, however the door to the bathroom cannot be opened all the way and is 29” at its most narrow. The driveway is heavily-compacted gravel, and is perfectly level with the patio/front doorway/suite. The bed is 19” tall, and the sofa bed is 23” tall. We have a shower seat and toilet grab handles. If you have more specific questions, we welcome you to ask anything and everything, and please do so prior to booking. •PRIVACY• The suite is designed to offer near-complete seclusion, with its own entrance, parking area, patio, outdoor spaces, reflective window tinting, and HVAC system. Many improvements to soundproof the space have been made, and you share no walls with the host other than the ceiling. Incredibly simple self check-in process. While we love guest interaction, as a default, we err on the side of guest privacy and seclusion, so we encourage guests to advocate for themselves should they be looking for anything in particular with their stay. We’re here as much or as little as you want us. Guest access •THE PROPERTY• 👩🌾 This property was formerly used for livestock and tree harvesting. As the new stewards of the land, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to let things re-wild for a bit to attract the wildlife. We manage a 1/2 acre food plot that we share as much with guests as we can, but otherwise we are letting the forest heal. Neighbors on three sides still maintain livestock, and you can often hear cows just up the mountain or hanging out by the road. 🥾 There are two mile of trails - ascend 700 ft. up the mountain via the old logging road for a strenuous and rewarding hike. 🍒 During berry season guests are provided two pairs of gloves and a basket. Your host is happy to assist in helping find bushes. 🏕️ Guests are welcome to pitch a tent or hammock on the wood platform adjacent to the suite. 🌡️ Enjoy a slightly more mild climate as we are sit over 1200 feet above the valley (Asheville). 🌄 West facing, relax out on the patio and take in some incredible sunsets. The mountain ranges run East/West, so in the summer we experience about four hours of indirect sunlight. ⛲️ The property has multiple natural springs that run down the mountain, converging at a magical creek, that we’ve supplied with a fire pit and outdoor seating. 🦟 We’ve only seen maybe four mosquitoes on the property, ever. They’re incredibly rare! 🌌 Enjoy the enchanting experience of stargazing under some of the darkest skies in the eastern US. Come during a full moon and take a nighttime stroll without the need for lights, and listen as the mountain comes alive. Other things to note •WELLNESS• 💆♀️ Treat yourself to an invigorating massage or bodywork session provided by our talented neighbor, Rebecca. She offers exceptional in-suite services at a very reasonable rate. You'll find her contact information in the unit, however it is recommended to reserve a session prior to your stay. 🧘♀️ As a practicing Zen Buddhist, I am happy to offer guided meditation services for those interested, whether you are new to meditation or simply seek a meditation partner during your vacation. The service lasts approximately an hour and includes a brief overview of Zen Buddhism, a recitation of the Heart Sutra (a foundational text) followed by about 15 minutes of Shikantaza, Japanese for "just sitting." This style of meditation is similar to popular mindfulness exercises, and aids in cultivating a calm and clear mind. The meditation service is provided to you unconditionally free. 🍃 Experience the restorative power of shinrin-yoku, or “forest bathing”, a Japanese practice that encourages deep immersion in nature. Too free and guided by your host, you'll engage your senses, absorbing the healing properties of the forest. This mindful experience promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and enhances your overall well-being, making it an enriching addition to your stay. 💡Lighting across the entire property, inside and out, has been meticulously managed. Being exposed to warm lighting a few hours before bed helps promote the natural production of melatonin, which can aid in recovering one’s circadian rhythm (one’s natural sleep schedule). Inside the floor, table, and bedside lamps emit a cozy candle hue, while the recessed lighting is matched to mimic sunlight, creating a space that is bright when needed, or warm and comforting at night. The shower light has an adjustable warmth setting, perfect for everything from makeup application to setting up a soothing moment. All outdoor lighting has a soft warm glow which helps to retain night vision and continues to aid in natural melatonin production. •CONSIDERING FACTORS• 🤳 Please note that cell reception in the area is limited. We encourage guests to activate WiFi Calling on their devices prior to their stay, and take advantage of our near gigabit internet speeds. 🔕 While significant efforts have been made to soundproof the suite, please understand that it may not be completely immune. We have a new puppy, and while he is a total sweetheart, you may occasionally hear a “yip” or the pitter-patter of them walking around. We do our absolute best to limit this noise, including a correction collar, a verbal reprimand. They have a nice backyard space to run around in, and we don’t allow the two of them to play indoors. We are also building a small cabin on the property, about 1/4 mile from the suite, so expect some noise from that, however from inside it is very faint, if not nonexistent. 🏠 We offer heavily discounted long stays during the off season months. These guests are asked to supply their own TP and coffee after our complimentary ones are used, and to do some basic tidying up before leaving. •GETTING AROUND• 🚗 Unlike a lot of remote properties out here, a car is able to make it to the suite just fine. The driveway is gravel and around 1/4 mile long, and the incline is minor and spread out. No need for 4x4 or all wheel drive. The road to the house is paved, and there is only one turn once off the interstate. 👷♀️ 1 mile from Navitat Ziplining 💐 3 min. to The Never Ending Flower Farm (pick your own flowers) 🌲 5 min. to Pisgah National Forest ⛽️ 10 min. to a country grocer, gas station, and pizza place 🎣 10 min. to fishing spots 🏞️ 12 min. to Douglas Falls Trailhead 🏪 15 min. to Weaverville for shopping, dining, and groceries 🌄 15-25 min.
