Description
Circa 1780, The Smithy is part of a Grade II listed, thatched property. Recently extended, it is now a cosy, light-filled, self-contained annex with private access, ideal from which to explore the beautiful North Devon countryside. Accessed via steps to a stable door is a relaxing living/dining space, a double bed on a mezzanine floor and a small shower room. Guests have access to a small patio with seating in the cottage's lovely gardens. The space Access to The Smithy from the country lane is up five small steps, through a stable door into a relaxing living/dining space. Here, you will find comfortable armchairs, a small TV, a table and chairs (which can be folded away if required), a microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster and a dresser storing all you need for your stay. There’s plenty of room to enjoy a leisurely breakfast, serve up your takeaway lunch or dinner, unwind with a glass of your favourite tipple before you head off to a local eaterie or have a nightcap before turning in for the night ... and we'll do the washing up for you! Up a couple of steps, there is a small shower room where you will find plenty of towels. Apart from shower gel and hand soap, toiletries are not provided. On the mezzanine floor, is a double (4’6”) bed, a small cupboard, a suitcase stand and clothes rail with hangers. Head height is restricted in part of this space. Two Velux windows above the bed look out to the side of a wooded valley. At night, you can look up at the amazing starlit skies we frequently see. It’s not a dark valley but there is very little light pollution here. There is free, off-road parking for one vehicle. Parking in the road is sometimes possible but only as a last resort. Bicycles can be accommodated at your own risk. From the parking area, through a five-bar gate, there is a small, secluded patio with seating surrounded by lush planting, near a trickling brook, with views of Little Winson’s lovely, sheltered garden and the surrounding countryside. Guest access The hosts, Graham and Julie, live in the attached cottage so are usually on hand to help. There is no access between the buildings during your stay. Other things to note The Smithy is ideal for guests who need a base from which to explore the beautiful North Devon countryside and coastline, are visiting family or friends or attending an event. There is a variety of wedding venues, catering for micro-weddings to much larger affairs. Locally, you will find something to appeal to everyone – beaches, woodland, pubs galore, museums, excursions, activities including fishing, walking, cycling, gardens such as RHS Rosemoor, motorbike meets and ride-outs and, of course, much wildlife, especially in Exmoor National Park. We regularly see or hear hares, deer, ravens and buzzards, as well as many garden birds, butterflies, moths and bees. Julie and Graham look forward to welcoming you.
