This rural accommodation is bathed by the Mondego River, located in the municipality of Tábua. The entire space was recently rebuilt, maintaining its surroundings with nature. It has 4 fully equipped houses, a lounge bar, an outdoor dining area, a barbecue area, a gym and an outdoor swimming pool. It offers different activities and services, such as massages, yoga, bicycles, paddle boarding, nature hikes, a vegetable garden and interaction with different animals. Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway. The space Situated on the River Mondego in a beautiful valley in Portugal’s Coimbra region, Casa da Figueira is one of three properties available to rent at this serene complex of vacation cottages. With a large terrace overlooking the river, Casa da Figueira accommodates up to six people in three bedrooms (one double, two twin). High-speed Internet (100mbps) is available throughout the property. On the ground floor, a pristine kitchen is fully appointed with everything you need to cater for yourselves during your stay. Tea and coffee making facilities are included (expresso machine). The kitchen is open plan onto a small dining area and living space. Here, a cosy wood burner adds to the comfort factor. The dining area has an extendable table which can comfortably seat six. The double bedroom and its ensuite shower room is also situated on the ground floor. With a king-size bed with soft, cotton linens you can enjoy a wonderfully comfortable sleep. Upstairs, two further light and airy bedrooms and a second, immaculate bathroom can be found. The two bedrooms are both twin rooms, each with two single beds. The combination of antique finds and new additions made by local craftspeople add to the homely ambience. High-quality latex memory foam mattresses and luxurious Egyptian cotton bed linens assure everyone of a great night’s sleep. Here, you can relax and soak up the wonderful rustic views as you unwind and rejuvenate. Casa da Figueira (house of the fig tree) is part of the retreat of Quinta da Rabaçal, a gorgeous collection of three cottages situated in a peaceful valley in the green heartland of Portugal, just over an hour from the Atlantic coast and less than two hours south of Porto. The properties have been tastefully renovated, using sustainable materials and with respect to their history. Quinta da Rabaçal is set on 5.4 hectares of private land with lawns and landscaped gardens dotted with olive trees. Beyond it, rolling green hillsides and beautiful river views create the perfect ambience for a relaxing and peaceful escape. The site is sustainably run and boasts an impressive off-grid renewable electrics and hot water system. You can charge your electric vehicle from the solar panels (11kW charging). Your hosts are also stewards of an additional 2) hectare plot which they are actively reforesting with native trees. When you stay at Casa da Figueira, you enjoy shared access to Quinta da Rabaçal’s facilities. These include an outdoor infinity pool which makes the most of those countryside views, an al-fresco jacuzzi and a spa suite by the pool with wood fired sauna, massage and beauty treatment rooms. There’s also an al-fresco ping-pong table, and a covered, open-air gym, where you can book yoga classes and 1:1 yoga (available on request). A selection of gym equipment is available for your use in the dojo. Guest access When you stay at Casa da Figueira, you enjoy shared access to Quinta da Rabaçal’s facilities. These include an outdoor infinity pool which makes the most of those countryside views, an al-fresco jacuzzi and a spa suite by the pool with wood fired sauna, massage and beauty treatment rooms. There’s also an al-fresco ping-pong table, and a covered, open-air gym, where you can book yoga classes and 1:1 yoga (available on request). At Casa da Figueira, you are perfectly situated to enjoy forest walks and relax, surrounded by nature and the Quinta’s small and friendly menagerie of animals (your hosts’ dogs, ducks and goats will happily say meander past to say hello as you wander the property). By the river, you will discover a small boathouse with a selection of water sports equipment. Help yourself and you can enjoy an afternoon kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding on the River Mondego. Other things to note The village of Vila do Mato is just two-kilometre walk from the cottage. Here, you can savour sweet treats from the traditional cake shop, Pastelaria Finata and discover a couple of local Portuguese bars. Another kilometer further on and you’ll come to the pretty village of Midoes. Here, you’ll find a butcher, small supermarket, post office and the Midobar restaurant, specialising in Portuguese food. Walking paths criss-cross the valleys here, making the location ideal for hiking. Many Roman bridges cross the Mondego River and there are a number of rare Dolmen neolithic sites. The area also boasts some fantastic river beaches along the Mondego River which we encourage you to explore. 10km from the cottage stand the ruins of the Roman city of Bobadela, with a temple of Neptune and amphitheatre. If you wish to venture further afield, the historic city of Coimbra, with its UNESCO heritage recognised university and roman sites is around an hour’s drive away. Bustling Figuera da Foz, situated where the River Mondego meets the Atlantic Ocean, is an hour and a quarter away. It is the tourist capital of Portugal’s silver coast, beloved by surfers and kitesurfers. Figuera is surrounded by glorious Atlantic beaches, all around an hour and a half away from Casa do Loureiro by car.
