Xcalak is located near the border of Belize and is a small village with about 500 inhabitants. The house is located by the sea in a peaceful area. Xcalak has a few smaller restaurants serving local food, they are only a few minutes walk from the house. Xcalak is a lovely place for those looking for a quiet holiday with a focus on the distinctive Caribbean nature. Especially the proximity to the world's second largest coral reef, and Mexico's best place for fly fishing for bonefish, permit and tarpon. The space The property is located 20 meters from the beach. The existing property was originally a building with 3 bedrooms with bathrooms. In 2018, the bedrooms and bathrooms were completely renovated. In addition, a new adjacent building with kitchen and living room was built. Outside there is a very spacious palapa (terrace) with roof, and on the roof there is a palapa with great views over the lake and the daily life in the village. There is a locked gate to the property. Guest access Guests have access to 1 room with 2 single beds, which can be put together to form a double bed if desired. It is possible to rent 2 bedrooms, then the rental price increases in relation to the number of guests. A third bed for children can also be placed in the rooms. Other things to note Gabriela lives in the village and is responsible for taking care of guests. The rent includes daily cleaning if desired, also washing of clothes. Gabriela is also a very good cook, and can, if desired, serve breakfast, lunch and dinner at a reasonable price. This is paid directly to Gabriela. Tip to Gabriela after the end of the stay is not included. Xcalak is one of the world's best places for fly fishing for bonefish, permit and tarpon. The host has direct contact with a very skilled guide with a boat that can be booked in advance. There are also very good opportunities for snorkeling at the coral reef just outside Xcalak. Local transport out there is possible, or use of a fishing kayak that is available in the house.
