Luxurious Stone Cottage
Near Cornell University, in a quiet suburban setting, the stone cottage is a relaxing getaway only two miles from Ithaca's city limit. Designed for two, but with room for four if needed, the unique stone construction and superior furnishings provide a memorable experience, not just a place to sleep. The play of the light over the thick stone walls from the generous windows, provides a gentle wake up call - if the neighborhood rooster hasn't already got your attention - although those insulated stone walls and double paned windows provide pretty good sound insulation from the outside world. In cooler months enjoy sitting before the wood-burning fireplace after a warm bath in the Jacuzzi whirlpool tub, before you melt into the cozy TempurPedic mattress (prewarmed by an electric mattress pad). Guests are welcome to use the shared flagstone patio with comfy chairs, a stone table and market umbrella, a firepit and a Weber gas grill, season permitting. You can set up chairs or a blanket by the pond or wander up the hill. We have a very gentle rooster and some hens. They don't want to be chased, but they are happy to be observed. We try to keep our super friendly poodle/border collie mix in the house or the backyard, but she's a great fence jumper, and she lives to be with people, so you may run into her during your stay. Her name is Lucy. We are on the property, and as avaialble as you'd like. Once a reservation is confirmed and arrival details exchanged, there is no need to 'check-in' in person. But if there are any issues, questions, or concerns, or if you'd like information about the area, or just to chat, we are easily available. Much of the stone that build Cornell was quarried here, and more recently the stone on the dorms of West Campus was fabricated here. Now the quarry is nearly completely reclaimed, and the hillside meadow hosts fireflies, deer, rabbits, foxes, and groundhogs. The Ellis Hollow neighborhood is a quiet residential area only two miles from the East Hill Plaza with shopping and dining, and four miles from the center of Ithaca. Ithaca offers more dining options per capita than New York City! Nearby is the Coal Yard Cafe, and Agava Restaurant, and in town you will find many more restaurants including, Gimmee Coffee, Collegetown Appitizers and Bagels, Just A Taste - a popular wine and tapas bar, and Moosewood - home of the Moosewood Cookbook. Many take-out options tempt with delivery right to the stone cottage if you can't bring yourself to leave after a busy day. We recommend a car since it is two miles to the nearest convenient bus stop. Uber, Lyft, taxis and limosine services are all available as well. Limosine services are particularly popular for wine tours. There are many hiking trails in the area, though no serious trails are contiguous to our property.
