House in the Sky

Two listings have been combined for these dates. House in the Sky will appear to be unavailable on the calendar, but can be booked as part of the larger property listed as Bali Long Ago. The space Situated in the village of Tiagan at about 1200 feet/365 meters, the listing consists of four buildings: a living room-dining room, kitchen/bathroom, bedroom, and a building with toilet and wash basin near the bedroom. LR/DR is built on pylons cantilevered out over a gorgeous ravine with an unencumbered, 270 degree view of Bali and the ocean between it and Nusa Penida. The main house is essentially a platform with a roof, enclosed in glass. The house is simply but elegantly furnished. It can give the sense that one is floating above the island. There is a narrow ledge surrounding the building to make it possible to wash windows and take care of the structure. IT IS NOT A PORCH! There is no railing. Those averse to heights would not be comfortable here. It is, therefore, not an appropriate accommodation for young children. The kitchen/bathroom building is about four meters from the LR/DR. The kitchen is large, well-equipped, with beautiful views up the highest mountain on the island and into the ravine, and has a table and chairs. The bedroom, again, is a roofed platform surrounded by glass tucked into the side of the ravine. The aesthetic choice throughout the property was to create a sense of unfettered connection to a spectacular natural setting. Hence the absence of railings and ensuite bathrooms. Guest access From the main road, there is a rock and dirt road to the listing where there is a parking area. Buildings are about 50 meters from where one parks. Other things to note There is a much loved cat that has the run of the property and eats and sleeps in the kitchen. Those with allergies or aversions to cats should book elsewhere. There are effective fans in living room and air conditioning in the bedroom, and the altitude of the location and open air design of the buildings results in cool comfortable evenings. Excellent Indonesian meals can be provided on request as can transportation around the island. (Breakfast is not included in the price per night.). Scooters can be rented locally, as well. INTERNET: is the best possible in our particular location — about 90 mbps upload and download. NOTE: Lizzards (Gekkos) are a fact of life in Bali. The poorest dwellings and five-star hotels have them. They are harmless and eat countless insects. They have a loud cry and are impossible to housebreak. Many of us find them endearing. But be warned. In addition, there are countless roosters in any rural Indonesian setting, such as ours, that begin to crow very early in the morning. Ants: Bali, especially in Nusa Penida, and even more so in rural, heavily wooded areas, is experiencing a veritable plague of ants. Staff do everything possible to control them, but they are impossible to eradicate. For many in the West, ants are indicative of inadequate housekeeping. This is not the case with us, you may be assured. You will undoubtedly encounter them on floors at moments between cleanings and spraying. We live comfortably in all spaces, but please be advised.
