Sellers as a model home for future East Mountain cabins, some say it was built on a lark as a joke! We’ll never know but we do know it was built in 1927 and sat on the hill alone for almost a decade while the depression ran its course. Col. D.K.B. Sellers made his fortune in the Klondike Gold Rush then came to New Mexico where he was one of the territory’s early land barons. The Colonel was a nickname, he never served in the military. He was Mayor of Albuquerque when New Mexico became a state and had an interest in the large sawmill East of Old Town so he had a few logs laying around. It’s said he loved San Francisco’s Nob Hill and he merely borrowed the name when he initially platted his new subdivision in 1914 with the slogan: “Get out of the low zone and into the ozone!” Home to a New Mexico production company when not working as an Air BnB the Cabin has been on screen in the TV show “In Plain Sight” as well as home to post production on films such as “Hell or High Water” starring Jeff Bridges and Chris Pine as well, “Frank” starring Maggie Gylenhall and Michael Fassbender. TV shows including Netflix’ “Longmire” and “House of Cards” as well as Sony’s “Preacher” & “Night Shift” have also done work at the cabin. When you stay at The Cabin you’re not just staying in a piece of Albuquerque history you’re staying in a piece of Hollywood present too!
