Description

Experience a beautifully designed stay in a historic 1870s Georgian townhouse. Full of charm, original features and thoughtfully curated global treasures, the Jungle Room tells a story to those who value art, culture, storytelling and meaningful travel. What makes it unique: Elegant Architecture Boutique Interiors & Antiques Local Guide Recommendations Personal Hospitality Excellent Location More than just a place to sleep - every object has a story and every guest adds to the next chapter! The space The Jungle Room is a space layered with stories - personal, architectural and cultural. Set within an 1870s Grade II listed townhouse, this spacious guest room is part of Edinburgh’s Georgian New Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its elegant streets, symmetry, and quiet sense of grandeur. Inside, you’ll find original period details like tall sash windows, soaring 11ft high ceilings, intricate cornicing, creaky wooden flooring and a fireplace that still bears the faint, circular scorch mark left by an old 1800s gas lamp. All subtle traces of lives once lived here. But this isn’t a museum. This is an authentic guest room brought to life through beautiful and quirky design, bold wallpapers, antique furnishings and global artifacts collected throughout my travels living and working across Europe as a Formula 1 racecar designer. Each item in the room, whether a 115-year-old postcard or a handmade artwork from abroad, has been chosen with intention. Some pieces are whimsical, others reflective. Together, they create an atmosphere that encourages guests to pause, wonder, and connect with something ongoing. This is a space designed to spark imagination, provide comfort, and feel like a home to the curious traveller. Whether you're staying with me for a weekend or longer, you're warmly invited to become part of this room’s living history. Guest access You'll also have shared access to a large, recently renovated period-style bathroom, featuring twin sinks, diamond-tiled floor, 6-jet jacuzzi bathtub and a rainfall shower - perfect for relaxing after a long day exploring Edinburgh. A fully equipped shared kitchen is available for your use - ideal for preparing a morning coffee, breakfast, or a light evening meal if you feel like staying in. Whether you’re soaking in the bath or enjoying a quiet moment over a cup of tea, you’ll have the space and freedom here to feel completely at home. During your stay I live in the flat and am always happy to offer help, answer questions, or give you personal recommendations to help you discover a more authentic side of Edinburgh. I'm often around if you'd like to chat - many guests enjoy swapping stories about their lives and travels, hearing tales of Old Edinburgh folklore, or learning about the curiosities and art that fill the Jungle Room. Occasionally, conversations over recommendations turn into impromptu tea parties or a shared dram of whisky - always optional, and never enforced! I’ve had the privilege of hosting over 150 people from 28 countries around the world, coming from all walks of life. I approach each stay with openness, kindness, and curiosity. Whether you’re someone who thrives on connection, conversation, and cultural exchange - or someone who simply wants a quiet, private base to unwind and recharge - I will follow your lead. Many guests come here not just to “tick off” Edinburgh’s top spots, but to feel a connection to Scotland's history, the people, and to something quietly meaningful in the background of their trip. However you prefer to travel, you’ll be warmly welcomed here - with sincerity, respect, and a shared sense of humanity that, I believe, is the true heart of hosting. Other things to note Local Recommendations: Within just a one-mile walk from the apartment, you’ll discover hidden nature trails, local whisky tasting experiences, art galleries, the historic Dean Village, tales of Edinburgh’s infamous grave robbers, and some of the city’s best pubs, bakeries, and restaurants. Each recommendation is personally selected, with insight and stories passed down from my parents - both professional tour guides - deeply steeped in the folklore, legends and living culture of the city. This is the cornerstone of what makes a stay here unique - your chance to step off the beaten path and experience the real Edinburgh, as locals know and love it. Noise: The Jungle Room is located on a main city road, making it incredibly convenient and walkable, especially for transport and local amenities. Some guests may notice a bit of city noise, particularly on weekends -complimentary earplugs are provided for your comfort. Parking: Free on-street parking is available in a safe residential area about a 15-20 minute walk from the flat, near my parents' home. It’s a good choice for longer stays or those who don’t mind a stroll. Paid parking is available closer by at Q-Park Capital Square (W Approach Rd, EH3 8BP), about a 10-minute walk away. This is a secure 24-hour garage and costs around £31.50 per day. Amenities: For your convenience and enjoyment, the room includes an iPad with Netflix, free Wi-Fi, clean towels, hair-dryer and essential toiletries. If you need to store luggage before or after your visit, I’m more than happy to help - just ask. While this is a shared flat, I host only one guest room and always do my best to ensure your stay feels relaxed, personal, and respectful - a space where you can truly feel at home.
