Illinois River Paradise | Private 60 Acres
Illinois River Paradise | Private 60 Acres
Description
Tired of camping next to people? With 60 acres for your enjoyment & gated entrance, you won’t see anyone else during your whole stay! 15 min from I-49 with Walmarts & gas stations even nearer keeps you close to town. Camp right next to the Illinois River under giant oaks, ash trees, & sycamores with a waterfall behind you & the river in front. Hiking trails have been cut for you to enjoy the property. Check out “Mini Hawksbill Crag.” Another fun trail leads you up a creek bed with waterfalls. The space The main campsite has two picnic tables, hammock, and a fire pit. It’s just steps to the river and is fully shaded by towering oaks, ash, and sycamores to keep you cool on the hottest days. We have canoes and kayaks available to rent for $15. I’m happy to set you up with fishing gear and point you to the best spots on our stretch of the river. There is a waterfall directly behind the campsite 100’ away that is beautiful in wet weather. A hiking trail will lead you from your site down the river bank then up the side of the hill to the best overlook west of i49! The sunsets are remarkable when the leaves are dropped and the sky reflects off the river below. You’ll may see deer, turkey, tortoises, beaver, and other wildlife. If you hear what sounds like a Buffalo coming through the woods at night, fear not! That’s just the local armadillo. Absolutely no hunting allowed including no foraging for mushrooms. If the weather has been dry enough, you may be able to drive an overland vehicle all the way to the campsite. If there has been some rainfall, you’ll be asked to walk 200 yards or if you don’t have AWD it will be a 5 min walk to the campsite. Guest access Guest have access to all 60 acres of the property. There are multiple creeks, ponds, hiking trails, and the Illinois River runs through the west side. If you take the trail to the left as soon as you enter the property by the gate, you’ll find an old red dirt mine with 10’ tall walls making it a really fun “fort” for kids. There is a bench for your relaxing at the top of the overlook hiking trail. Late checkouts and early checkins are an option for $25 giving you much more time to enjoy the property. Early checkins aren’t typically available if you’re arriving on Saturday bc of campers checking out that morning. Other things to note There is an old home and old stable on the property. Time and neglect from previous owners have taken over making these buildings very unsafe. Do not enter any buildings. We are trying to repair them when funds are available. They are far away from the campsite and cannot be seen from your tent site but you drive by on the way in. Please no hunting, foraging, or ATVs. If you find an antler shed, please leave it as it’s one of my boy’s favorite things to do.
