The Art Barn
Description
Reconnect with nature in the forest oasis and former art studio of South African artist and fashion designer, Harvey Rothchild. Situated on the Garden Route amid rolling farmlands and natural forest, the Art Barn is located a mere 15 minute drive from Knysna and 20 minutes from Buffels Bay. The converted art studio is an open plan designed to capture the soft forest light as it filters through the trees, and to provide the occupants with breathtaking views of the surrounding forest. The space Hard wood floors throughout, the first floor has a fully equipped kitchen with luxury 5 burner stove, Nespresso machine, full-size fridge, and dishwasher. The living room faces the forest canopy, perfect for lounging with a wood burning stove for cool nights. The dining room is furnished with a six-seat dining room table. A large bathroom with open shower and washing machine, looks into the forest. There is a lovely deck surrounded by forest canopy with full gas braai (BBQ) and outdoor dining. Travel up the floating staircase to two open bedrooms, with views looking into the forests. The Art Barn is equipped with free Wi-Fi. The Art Barn is located, just off the N2 on the Rheenendal Road. We are approximately 15km from Knysna’s town center with restaurants, shops, and art studios; 20km Buffels Bay, a blue flag beach; 23km from the idyllic village of Sedgefield; and 8km from SAN Parks' Goudveld Forest, including the Dalene Matthee Circles in the Forest memorial with hiking and cycling trails. The Garden Route is renowned for its picturesque mountains, stunning beaches on the Indian Ocean, and quiet, ancient forests. Explore the area and the great outdoors through scuba diving, hiking, kayaking/SUP, hang gliding, fishing, mountain biking, diving with great whites, whale watching, and so much more! Guest access The whole Art Barn is yours to enjoy! In addition, you have your own parking area, private garden and deck. Other things to note Please note that basic provisions are provided to set guests up for their arrival, but this is a self-catering stay. We routinely change linens once a week for guests staying longer than 7 days, and we are happy to service the cottage daily, or weekly, or as requested for an additional fee, if so required. The Art Barn is an open plan design with no walls separating the bedrooms on the second floor. The floating staircase and hanging walkways between the bedrooms give the Art Barn its airy feeling but is not appropriate for toddlers. The Art Barn is not very well insulated, because it is a barn after all, and as such it can get chilly in winter months and hot in summer. Fans are provided, and guests will have access to a large pile of firewood (from invasive tree species on the property) at no additional cost to ward off the cold. Unfortunately, there is no air-conditioning. We also live on the property with our rescue pups who are happy to share a furry cuddle with any dog lovers. The main house is behind a tree line and mostly out of view from the Art Barn, and beyond that is a sheep shed and chicken coop. Although we are not a commercial farm, we are a working farm and we'd like to remind our guests that animal sounds may form part of the charming countryside experience. The Art Barn, like most properties in the area, is not connected to a municipal water supply line. We harvests rainwater that is safe for household use, and is environmentally sustainable, and a water filtration system provides water that is safe for drinking and cooking. Lastly, the Art Barn is tucked away in a forest setting and is therefore surrounded by, and in close proximity to, a wide variety of critters that call this beautiful woods their home.
