Description

Experience early American architecture while enjoying modern conveniences in the Carter House. This unique, newly renovated first-floor apartment is located in the Versailles historic district, in easy walking distance of restaurants and shops. It’s the perfect place for a family or a group of friends to relax, enjoy time together, and visit surrounding sites. The host lives in the apartment upstairs and can be available if any issues arise. The space This is the first floor unit of a two story house. Update: one of the reviews mentioned a squeaky bed frame on one of the beds, and this has been fixed. The bed is now anchored and silent! The larger bedroom (bedroom 1) has a new king size Tempur-Pedic mattress and bedroom 2 contains a queen size. The spacious rooms and high ceilings showcase a blend of antique and contemporary furnishings. A modern island kitchen and bathroom with walk-in shower were recently added. The large dining room is perfect for meals and game nights, and the living room invites you to talk with friends and family or just chill out and watch TV or read a book. Both bedrooms have desks if you want to work. Need some fresh air? Gather on the covered porch or the west side yard for some relaxation or outdoor eating. The Carter House was built in 1792 and has belonged to the Carter family since the early 1800s. Over the centuries, it has housed generations of the Carter family, a doctor’s office, the first Versailles library, a tearoom, and more recently a fine arts gallery. Enjoy the first floor of this two-story townhome, which has no shared spaces with the upstairs apartment, home of the host, who is a descendant of the Carter family. Bourbon and horses are big in Versailles. This is an ideal spot to explore the Bourbon Trail -- Woodford Reserve, Castle & Key, Buffalo Trace, Four Roses, and Wild Turkey are minutes away, while the Amsden Bourbon Bar is an easy walk down the street. In the heart of the Bluegrass, Versailles is surrounded by beautiful racehorse farms (including the home of the 2022 Kentucky Derby winner). Take a farm tour or visit Keeneland, Churchill Downs, Old Friends Farm, and the Kentucky Horse Park. Located between Louisville and Lexington and a 10 minute drive to Bluegrass Airport, you can visit historic sites, such as the homes of Henry Clay and Mary Todd Lincoln. Or explore nature at Red River Gorge, Buckley Wildlife Preserve, and Mammoth Cave. Close by is the charming town of Midway, with quaint shops, restaurants, and Equus Run Vineyards. Guest access The first floor, side porch, and side yard. Plentiful street parking right in front of the house.
