The Lake House—a vacation retreat located across from Camp Burson at the entrance of Hungry Mother State Park in Marion, Virginia. Please note that The Lake House is the downstairs unit. Campside Cottage is the upstairs unit. There is no interior access between the two. Relax around a campfire, hike or bike the many trails. Lounge on the beach with a good book, or cast your line to catch a big one! Enjoy the beautiful Appalachian mountains while paddle boarding or kayaking the lake! The space The Lake House is situated directly across from Camp Burson, the entrance to Hungry Mother State Park. One of six original CCC parks that opened in 1936, Hungry Mother has long been a favorite. The Lake House shares that same 30’s/40’s charm, but with all of the modern amenities. The Lake House is a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom house with a large living room, eat-in kitchen, laundry room, and a great front porch—it’s perfect for making memories with your family! There is a large backyard with a driveway that’s perfect for kids to ride bicycles! You can enjoy the flicker of campfires from Camp Burson from your own private fire pit. You have your choice of a gas or charcoal grill. The Lake House is perfect for a couple, or a family. The house sleeps 6 comfortably. Parents and guests of Emory & Henry Health Sciences students—we are located 2 miles from the Marion campus and would love to host you when you visit! Guest access Access to the trail that circles the lake is directly across from the property. The Clyburn trail is adjacent to the property. In addition to hiking and biking the trails at Hungry Mother, there is a beach area (with concessions), a gift shop (inside the park and at Camp Burson), playground areas, canoe, paddle boat, paddle board, and kayak rentals. Other things to note Downtown Marion has excellent restaurants (Mi Puerto, Macados, Wooden Pickle, Moondog, Sister’s Cafe & Gifts, Sur 81..to name a few, as well as many fast food chains), and shopping (Blue Ridge Outfitters, Marion Outdoors, Army/Navy Store, Just Believe Boutique, The Daisy Boutique, The Toy Box.) Take in a movie or a game of putt-putt at Park Place Drive-In. Grab an ice cream at Park Place or some fudge at Willbeez. Enjoy some coffee and pastries at Starbucks or the Better Coffee Co. on Broad Street. Marion’s own Lincoln Theatre, one of the last remaining Mayan Revival style theaters in the world, provides a variety of performing arts events. And just a short drive away…Barter Theatre, Grayson Highlands Park (wild ponies), The Channels, The Virginia Creeper Trail, The Appalachian Trail, The Bristol Raceway.
