Back Bay Cottage

Designed and built by architect Peter Braithwaite, the unique cottage design offers an exclusive and tranquil getaway. Accommodating up to 6 guests, this open concept, fully equipped cottage is ideal for couples, small families or outdoor enthusiasts any time of year. The airbnb is located 20 minutes outside of Halifax on six-acres with an outdoor fireplace, BBQ and stunning views that overlook Back Bay. The space Situated along a rocky outcropping that overlooks Back Bay, this open concept airbnb is sited within the culturally rich community of Terence Bay. The architectural form of the building is driven by a desire to frame the rich coastal landscape. The procession through the airbnb invites the guest into a double height volume that captures a dramatic view of the ocean. The strategic fenestration captures a panoramic view of the rugged terrain and takes advantage of natural cross ventilation. The six large structural rigid frames create a rhythmic motif throughout the building that clearly defines the spatial division the interior zones. Inspired by local building practices, the cladding of the exterior is composed of locally sourced hemlock slats which enables the building’s exterior to age naturally and withstand the diverse Atlantic climate. The main level features a large entry mudroom with plenty of storage, a full bathroom with a large wood clad walk-in shower, a separate laundry room, a fully equipped kitchen, an open dining space and comfy living area with ample reading material. There are two couches in the living area that can accommodate two additional guests as required. On the second level, guests will enjoy a spacious bedroom which includes a queen bed, built-in cabinets, a reading lounge and stunning views. An additional queen-sized pull-down murphy bed is available as required. Guest access Guests have access to the six-acre site and shared amenities with local neighbors such as hiking trails, beaches and waterfront access. Parking onsite is provided for airbnb guests. Other things to note The airbnb is equipped with high-speed fiber-op WiFi internet. While the airbnb has an outdoor fire pit and outdoor Bar-B-Q, firewood and charcoal are not provided. If you intend on having a BBQ or an outdoor fire, please ensure you bring along a lighter/ matches, kindling, paper and any other fire related items you may require. For outdoor enthusiasts, Sorrow’s End Hiking Trail entrance is located down the lane (700m), both the Terence Bay Lighthouse Trail and East Coast Outfitters kayaking are within walking distance (3km), the Terence Bay Marina and Terence Bay Beach are also within walking distance (2km) and Peggy’s Cove is a short drive or bike ride away (20km).
