Eclectic one-bedroom house

This bohemian New Paltz house is 1/3 mi to Main St New Paltz, 2/3 mi to SUNY and 1 1/2 blocks from the New Paltz-Kingston rail trail. Rent entire house with a private bathroom, large deck space with table and grill, small living and dining room, EV charging and a kitchen. The entire upstairs is a spacious and unique bedroom space. Walking distance to many restaurants and bars. New Paltz is a central location for outdoor fun, close to Mohonk, the Gunks, great biking, hiking, rock climbing, etc. The space This very-New-Paltzian bohemian house is in a central location. It is 1/3 mile from Main Street, where one can find a plethora of eating, drinking and unique shopping establishments. It is 2/3 mi from the edge of SUNY New Paltz's campus. New Paltz is a mecca for rock climbing (the Gunks are just up 299), hiking, biking and kayaking and it has a large selections of very good restaurants, unique shops and boutiques and a fantastic night life with lots of live music on the weekends. Leave the car at home and walk to town. Also, if you are visiting during the summer months we are only a block away from Moriello pool. The bedroom is the entire top floor, a unique and airy space with a skylight. It has a high-quality but firm mattress. The downstairs couch transforms into another sleeping area. It is somewhere between a twin and full size bed when transformed and so it's good for one adult and two kids (or very small adults). The private bathroom has a shower. There is a desk in the front room, a small living room/dining room and a large deck with a grill and a table that seats four. The house has a small, multi-tiered fenced back yard. The fencing is enough to keep my dog in the yard when we are there, but if you bring a pet, look over the fence and assess how wily and determined your pet might be to get out before leaving him/her unattended in the yard. If you do bring a pet, please scoop his/her poop before leaving, too -- at least whatever is visible and especially if on a walking path. (If your pet pooped in the myrtle and you can't see it, don't worry too much about it -- although we get it pulled often, there is some poison ivy that seems to always sneak back in the myrtle and so it is probably not a great idea to hunt around there too much.) We live in the house and so there are personal items of ours around. We won't be in the main part of the house while you are there, but my sister and cohost Julia will probably be using the addition to the house from time to time (quietly) and we or a friend may be staying in the cabin in the back while you are there. Feel free to read any books that interest you or watch any of the movies you find. If our Roku is working, you may watch our Netflix and the movies we've bought on Amazon Prime, as well -- or sign into your own account (our Roku is usually working, but every now and then it decides it hates us and I because of that I don't want to "guarantee" it will be working). We have basic cable on the TV in the living room. If you get really involved in a book and aren't done before you leave, just text me the title. There is a good chance it is one that we won't miss if you take it. If we are going to be around when guests are there, we will stay entirely in the cabin and the addition to the house, which has a separate entrance and we will not use the deck. So you will have privacy. However, we will use the small back yard some. If you bring a pet, we will work with you on use of the yard. The parking area has a level 2 ChargePoint charger for plug-in electric vehicles or hybrids. It is set up to automatically start the charge overnight if plugged in. (If I am using the addition while there, I'll work out charging schedule with you.) Our parking area accommodates two vehicles. We will sometimes need to park there while you are there and so please park so that another vehicle will fit in the parking area. If you will be coming with two vehicles, please let us know. Although there is on-street parking on Church St, we might be able to work our schedule around yours so that you can use the second space. My sister and cohost Julia lives just down the street and can help you if you have questions or encounter any issues when we are not around. This is a very old house with steep stairs and the main floor has a raised living room. There are also a number of low shelves with knick-knacks and such on them. Thus, it is probably not the best location for a toddler. If your pet likes to lay on the furniture, please use one of the flat sheets stored in the lounge part of the couch as a cover to help control pet hair. We have dog beds in the addition. If you think your pet would be happier with its own bed, we can bring one over to the main side of the house. If you have friends in the area or even just meet some people you really connect with, the house is a nice place to entertain them. Please no wild, destructive parties, though. We ask guests not to smoke smoke in the house. There is a covered front porch and a deck you can use for a smoke. Also, if you reserve the house for more than a week during cooler months, we will need weekly access in order to water the indoor houseplants and if it is during warmer months, we'll need deck access to water the plants. We are happy to work with you to find good times to come water the plants. Guest access We have a smart lock. I will set a code for you close to your arrival day. We usually choose the code at random, but if you want a specific code, let us know. When you enter the code into the front door keypad, you should hear a beep and see a blinking green light. The door is unlocked while that light is blinking. Other things to note The back yard is fenced, but a determined pet may find a way out. It isn't a super secure fence. (It keeps our dog without issues, but she doesn't really try to get out.) Also, when we stay at the house ourselves we bring our dog and we welcome guests' pets. So if you have pet allergies, it may not be a comfortable stay. If you bring your pet during a time we will be staying in the cabin in the back, we will work with you on whether or not we bring our dog for the stay. Finally, people used to smoke tobacco products in the house (over a decade ago) and incense and candles are still sometimes lit in the house. Although we clean it well, it is a very old house with a lot of books. If you have very sensitive allergies to smoke, animals or dust, please take note. We have Ring video doorbells on the front door (which has a view of the front porch and the people walking up to the front porch), the basement door (which is the door to the addition to the house — this camera has a view into the non-fenced part of the yard), and the door on the cabin in the back (which has a view of the back yard, but not the deck above). So, there are some outside spaces that are being recorded on video. Also, the part of the house you'll be staying has three Amazon Echos: one in the kitchen, one in the bedroom, and one in the living room. (I use the one in the kitchen for timers and recipes and the ones in the living room and bedroom for music.) If you are uncomfortable with that, you may mute their mics so that they can't hear you or unplug them. (If you unplug the one in the living room, though, please try to not lose the plug through the hole in the book shelf.) If you want to use the one in the living room for music, you'll probably have to turn on the stereo, which automatically turns itself off when not in use. If you want to use them and are unfamiliar with Amazon Echos: you use the wake word "Alexa" to ask them to do something. Like, "Alexa, play Radio Paradise" or "Alexa, set an egg timer for three minutes." Although we try to keep basics like coffee, creamer, cooking oil and such in the house, we don't supply perishables like milk. If the previous guests leave perishables that haven't expired and seem to be in good shape, we'll keep them for the next guest. But there won't always be milk and such when you check in. Luckily, Stewart's is literally just around the corner and they have everything you may need. Please be aware that I am using a "dynamic pricing" app to set the price of the stay based on local demand and my minimum/maximum price range. So I myself am not setting pricing for individual nights. It changes from night to night. If you were a guest when we still had my mother's cat living in the non-guest part of the house, don't worry that she was taken out of the listing description: she is still very much alive, but we think she was getting lonely because she started meowing when guests came and so we brought her to a new home. As a pretty entrenched homebody, we weren't convinced she'd be happy anywhere but Mom's house, but she seems to finally have adjusted to her new home. And to the last few guests who were here during her vocal period, I apologize. If you come back, she won’t be meowing at you anymore. Finally, so that everyone knows exactly what they are getting and what they are not getting, here are a few details to consider: 1. We have a very good mattress in the main sleeping area, but it is firm. We did get a memory foam topper that we are hoping that guests who like plusher beds can make use of, but we haven't found a good way to store it in the guest part of the house, yet, without it getting in the way. If you want a plusher sleep (or want it for the fold out couch), let us know. 2. The listing says it is "country side". I don't know how that came about or how to get rid of it. It is *not* country side. We are in the Village of New Paltz. Although the house is cute and we have a nice deck that has a view of Skytop, the deck also has a view of Stewart's parking lot and Towriffic (especially when the leaves are off the trees). It is not a place in a super scenic country side. The location is good because of the walk-ability to downtown and the rail trail, not because of its views. 3. We do not have a washer and dryer for guests to use.
