Description

"Off-Grid" 12x18 wall tent on 20 private wooded acres. Furnished with a full size Log Bed, Disc-O-Bed bunk cots plus Trundle. Additional cots available. Wood stove to warm up those chilly nights. Hiking trails, nature viewing, and fire pit on-site, many lakes nearby. Easy access to hundreds of miles of public ATV/Motorcycle trails. Great base camp location for your "Up North" weekend or vacation. Newer primitive shower shack for hot showers. Composting toilet inside the shower shack. The space Furnished with antiques, vintage, heirloom, and handmade items, we are trying to re-create the camping experience similar to what our parents and grandparents may have had decades ago, with some modern comforts. Sleeping accommodations consist of an antique handmade, full-size log bed (with an air mattress) and Disc-o-Bed bunks and trundle, plus a few vintage army cots available upon request. Sleeps up to 5 comfortably, and up to 8 if you don't mind being a little cozy. Power is provided by a 200 watts of solar panels with a power center and a 1500 watt 110v inverter. The tent is fitted with solar lights, and there are several battery lanterns and flashlights provided as well. We also provide some vintage kerosene lanterns and tiki torches for outdoor lighting. Several books (mostly non-fiction outdoor related), classic board games and playing cards are available for your entertainment. There are two Adirondack chairs, and two folding gravity chairs for outdoor seating, four antique wooden folding chairs for indoors or outdoors, and a couple of outdoor tables and benches. Guests are welcome to bring additional chairs, if desired. Some campfire cooking tools are provided. For cooking, there is a small charcoal grill, propane grill, and a Coleman propane stove for cooking, along with a few basic pots & pans, dishes and utensils. The shower shack contains an eccotemp propane camping water heater with a battery powered water pump (available approx May-Septermber). There is no well on the property, so all water must be brought in. At least 20 gallons of non-potable water will be provided per summer stay, but winter guests will need to bring their own water. The composting sawdust "toilet" is surprisingly comfortable and easy to use, with minimal odor - much less odor than a conventional pit outhouse. Guest access Guests will have access to our entire 20 acre property, except our locked storage shed and motorized equipment (ATV's, tractor, mowers, etc.). GPS coordinates of approximate property lines available on request. The driveway is more of a trail, and can be uneven and rough. Drive slowly. Although efforts are made to keep snow cleared in winter, it can be several inches deep. Check with us about current conditions before bringing a vehicle with low ground clearance in winter. Other things to note This is bear country. Although we haven't personally had any bear encounters, they are known to be in the area, and have been seen on multiple trail cams. Raccoons, fox, and coyote have also been seen on cameras. To prevent these animals from attempting to get in the tent, please keep all food, beverages, and garbage out of the tent at all times, and locked in your car or the shower shack when away or sleeping. This is a tent in the woods. As such, there may be insects, spiders, and/or mice in the tent. Bedding is stored in rodent-proof trunks and containers. In the two years that we've had the tent set up, we've never seen a mouse in the tent, although we have seen some evidence that they were there (chewed paper, etc.). They were here first, we are the intruders. Mosquitoes can be annoying in late spring and early summer, but by mid-summer there are very few left. Ticks aren't too bad in the mowed areas, but can be troublesome in the unmaintained areas of the property. Please make sure to check yourselves and your pets after going on the trails or exploring the woods. Bug spray is provided, but if you have sensitive skin or a favorite brand, feel free to bring it with. We don't charge a cleaning fee, because we believe providing a reasonably clean place to stay is a basic responsibility of being a host that our guests should not be charged extra for. To help prevent pests from being attracted to the tent, we do ask a few basic things of guests to take care of upon check-in and checkout. This will sometimes include the guests making the bed upon arrival, emptying the composting toilet as needed, and removing the bedding and washing any used dishes upon departure.
