Description

The Captain William Morgan House is an elegantly restored circa 1850 Greek Revival sea captain’s home in the heart of downtown Mystic’s Historic District. Rich in character and thoughtfully updated with modern comforts, this beautiful property is just a 3 min walk to shops, restaurants, marinas, and the waterfront. Enjoy a fully fenced yard, lush flower and vegetable gardens, a front sitting porch, a large covered pillared back porch, a private tea patio, and an in ground stone fire pit. The space The Captain William Morgan House is a beautifully restored 2,700 sq ft historic sea captain’s home in downtown Mystic that sleeps up to 10 guests, just a 3 min walk to Main Street, the waterfront, shops, restaurants, marinas, and all the charm of the historic district. Owned by Captain William Morgan of the last wooden whaling ship in the world, the home offers a rare mix of New England history, warmth, character, and comfort, all in one of the best walkable locations in Mystic. This is a wonderful home for family stays, holiday gatherings, girls weekends, and groups who want the feeling of a historic home with space to spread out and enjoy both indoors and out. The house has a large fully equipped kitchen with cathedral ceilings and an open loft above, an open dining room area for gathering together, and a comfortable living room with fireplace and new couches that are not yet shown in some of the online photos. The sleeping layout is flexible and works especially well for families and mixed age groups. The home includes one king bedroom, two queen bedrooms, one twin bedroom, and three twin loft bedrooms, allowing the house to sleep up to 10 guests. There are 2 full bathrooms in the house, one downstairs and one upstairs. The downstairs bathroom is one of the real highlights of the home. It features a jacuzzi tub along with a separate walk in stone floor shower with both a rain shower and handheld nozzle, which gives guests a nice balance of comfort and practicality. Upstairs there is a full bathroom as well, making the layout much easier for larger groups. Outside, the property is one of the most special parts of the experience. The yard is large, private, and surrounded by flowering gardens, giving the house a peaceful tucked away feeling despite being so close to downtown. There is a large covered back porch that is wonderful for relaxing, gathering, or enjoying coffee in the morning, along with a covered front porch that is especially nice around sunset. There is also a private stone tea patio nestled into the gardens, a hammock, a picnic table tucked behind the garden bed, a BBQ grill, and an in ground stone fire pit that makes evenings outside feel especially memorable. In the warmer months, we also provide 4 kayaks free for guest use, along with beach gear, which makes the house an even better home base for enjoying Mystic and the nearby Rhode Island beaches. The location is one of the biggest advantages of the Captain William Morgan House. You are just a 3 min walk to downtown Mystic, close to Mystic Seaport, Mystic Aquarium, Mystic Pizza, the famous Mystic River Bascule Bridge, and the many shops, restaurants, pubs, and marinas that make the town so special. The Argia sailing cruise is also nearby, and the village of Noank, known for its classic coastal feel and excellent seafood restaurants, is just a short drive away. Mystic is wonderful year round, and this house is especially charming through every season. Summer brings long days by the water, sailing, outdoor dining, and easy walks into town. Autumn is full of crisp air, changing leaves, fall festivals, and cozy New England charm. October is a favorite, with Haunted Happenings, seasonal decorations, and nearby trips to Clyde’s Cider Mill. Winter brings holiday lights, shopping strolls, and Mystic Seaport’s Lantern Light Village. Spring is one of the loveliest times to be here, when the whole town begins to bloom again and the gardens start to come alive. The Captain William Morgan House is a special place for guests who want space, character, outdoor living, strong walkability, and a true sense of Mystic history. Guest access One dedicated parking space is included in the driveway. Free street parking is also available and is usually not a problem for additional guest vehicles. Other things to note For larger parties the Carriage House at 26 Pearl St is available for rent. You can view this on Airbnb. This is on the lot next to the Captain Morgan House.
