Cottage in the woods

Our cottage is located in the middle of nature on the edge of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön. From the large garden you have a great view of the surrounding hills, valleys and the elevations of the western Thuringian Forest. The village you overlook is about 500 m away. Directly behind the house begins a forest with a hiking trail that leads around the "Nebel" as well as to hiking huts. At night you will be visited by deer, rabbits, bats, fireflies and an owl. Otherwise, you won't hear anything. The space The house has 3 floors connected by a narrow spiral staircase. On the lower floor (basement) there is a kitchen, dining area, relaxation area and shower. On the second floor is the living area, a double bedroom and the bathroom with toilet. In the attic you will find the large bedroom with a double bed as well as a baby travel crib and the children's room with a pull-out double bed. The house has no heating. In the colder months, it is heated by a tiled stove with wood and charcoal. This is connected to all central rooms on all floors, so that these rooms are nice and warm. Exception is the small bathroom on the second floor. There will be a small electric heater. The downstairs shower has underfloor heating. In the accommodation you will find basics for the kitchen (spices, coffee and tea filters, detergent and tabs, dish towels), the bathroom (toilet paper, soap, small towels) and the bedrooms (complete set of bed linen for the booked number of people). Please bring your own large towels and bath towels. Guest access The house is fully accessible. All rooms can be used. Some cabinets will be locked. There are 3 sheds in the garden. One of them, our workshop, is locked. The other two (sheds for garden furniture and wood storage) can be used. Other things to note We also use the house privately to relax. In the time you rented it, you will live there alone. Every now and then, an elderly gentleman will be driven into the garden by car. That's Georg. He takes care of the garden and gets his tools out of the tool shed. He will also help you with problems around the house and garden. If you ask him, he will also provide you with many useful tips on sights and the history of the area. Sometimes without being asked ;-) Every now and then, an elderly lady will be driven into the garden by car. That's Milda. She takes care of the plants and waters the beds. In the summer months, this can happen every evening. You can talk to her at any time, too. She will help you. The house is in the middle of nature. So you have to expect that insects and small animals will try to get into the house. In summer, there may be an increased incidence of ants. At night, an owl will occasionally sit in its own place at the house and look for prey. This is, of course, tolerated. You'll recognize the place when you see it. ;-) You should be aware that the house will never be as sterile and perfect as a 5-star hotel. On the one hand, this is due to its location in nature. On the other hand, its history. It was built in the 1980s "after work," at a time when there was a shortage. We have now lovingly modernized the house in recent years and furnished it so that we feel comfortable. We hope you do, too. Keep in mind! Due to the uninsulated walls, it can get quite cool even in spring and autumn as soon as the fire is out. Therefore, an extra sweater in your luggage can't hurt.
