Barbuda - ArtCafe

We offer one of our comfortable double bedrooms in our cool and spacious family home on Barbuda. It's just a short flight or ferry ride from Antigua and well worth a visit if you are travelling in the Caribbean. We live just outside the only village - Codrington - and are only ten minutes to the beach by car. And you will need to hire a car... there is no public transport on Barbuda. Experience local island life with us, whether you are on holiday or working here on Barbuda. The space Our house is on the road to Two Foot Bay; a twenty minute walk or a short bike ride from the centre of the only village of Codrington. We have a large quiet garden with shady cooking areas, a pizza oven, a barbecue and hammocks and chairs in the shade outside in several places. We have four bedrooms and you will have your own private bedroom and share our bathrooms, which both have showers. We also have a refreshing and natural outdoor plunge pool with water pumped straight out of our well. Our home is often busy, but with quiet, comfortable and family-friendly accommodation. We can provide most of the things you might need for your stay. We have beach supplies, cool boxes, games, fishing equipment and books. We include a help-yourself breakfast and you can buy and cook your own food in our kitchen or outside on a fire. You can book lunch or supper with us in the ArtCafe - our small art gallery and cafe where I cook every day - and there are lively bars and local food sellers in the village. Guest access You will find it easy to learn about island life with us. You will meet our family (we are three generations - a baby, a toddler, a six year old, young adults and old ones - but not all at once!) although we see our small grandchildren nearly every day. You will meet our friends who are all local people, or you can be quietly on your own, undisturbed in our garden if you want peace and quiet. Transport is essential to get round Barbuda and there are bikes, local taxi drivers and tour guides, or you can hire a car from around $65 usd per day, but be sure to book this in advance so they can meet you at the ferry or airport. During your stay We can help you find your way round the island with our local knowledge: we have maps and guides to the village and our pink sand beaches and lots of Caribbean literature. You can buy fresh fish and lobster to cook yourself at our home, or you can eat at the local street food sellers, or we can cook for you. We can help with organising tours, fishing and camping, with ice, cool boxes and sun shades and we will make your stay with us as enjoyable as we can. Other things to note Have a look at barbudaful - the only website just about Barbuda, for much more helpful information about the island, and to book tours or rent vehicles in advance. We have a car for rent you can book if it's available. Barbuda is expensive and getting cash can be a problem so bring cash with you if you can. Most local people have very small businesses and so do not take cards. We do not take card payments. Note: Airbnb does not seem to separate out Antigua and Barbuda on their listing, so some of the accommodation that comes up under a search for Barbuda is actually in Antigua. Be sure you have booked the right island!
