If you’re looking for a safe, authentic and private Jamaican experience this is it! A short (10-15 minutes) walk through the rainforest to the famous Winifred beach where your only company will be the local birds. The beach is very clean and uncrowded and fed by a freshwater spring. Wake up to roosters crowing and go to sleep with the sounds of the forest at night. You will have exclusive use of the space including two verandahs and a garden. The space Our cottage is typical of the local wooden village houses. It has a verandah all along front and back where you can chill and watch the sunset on the surrounding hills. If you want to know what it's like to live in the real Jamaica, this is your chance! The cottage is situated on Winifred community land with neighbours also living mainly in wooden hand built cabins. The locals will look out for you and it is very safe. The yard is 1/4 acre and so plenty of privacy and space. You can build a camp fire under the shade of the Sweet Wood tree, pick your own ackee for breakfast and have it with local village eggs (organic free range is the norm!) if you’re lucky you’ll get soursop, coconut and bananas too. The bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and a small kitchenette with gas rings and a fridge. Get the red stripe nice and cold choose the shadiest verandah (Front in the morning and back in the afternoon). The cabin is situated off the main road between Port Antonio and Boston and it's about a 20 minute ride in a route taxi (cost J$200) to Port Antonio and 5 minute ride to Boston beach (J$150). The Blue Lagoon is 5 mins drive and a half hour walk, with Frenchman’s cove also only 10 mins away. This is an ideal location to explore Portland without the heat and noise of other areas. Please note this is a very basic cabin room, it is open to nature and rustic in character. This is not a hotel and the price reflects that. When the water goes off as it does in Jamaica from time to time it is necessary to use a pump to pump water into the system from a tank. Guest access The cabin has two bedrooms both with en-suite so it is possible to book the whole cabin (see other listing ‘Winifred Beach Cottage) or just one room. You will have the whole place to yourself and your friends either way. In the case of only two guests the second room is locked and unavailable but the rest of the cabin is yours to use in its entirety. Other things to note There is no washing machine on site but we can do laundry for a fee. There is a laundry bowl and washing line. There are lots of dogs in Jamaica so if you’re a light sleeper bring earplugs. Most visitors to Jamaica come for the music so we assume you know that there WILL be loud music sometimes but no later midnight enforced by Police. Exceptions are street road block parties which are infrequent. The water is sometimes off from the main and thats out of our control. In these instances there is a tank and a pump.
