Le Ménil is a circa 1790 cottage on Main Street in Millersburg, KY. The early federal house is warm, comfortable, and inviting. Recently restored by the host, Le Ménil is full of antique furniture to compliment the period of its construction. Located on Main St. in Millersburg, it is conveniently located within walking and driving distance of Mustard Seed and Maplewood Estate and Barn. Proceeds from this listing go towards the preservation of this landmark. Ask about extended stay discounts. Le Ménil is a charming and recently restored 18th century cottage. Master bedroom, living room, kitchen, dining room, and bathroom are located on the 1st floor. The second floor loft has one full bed and a single(ish) authentic rope bed. The bathroom has a clawfoot slipper tub and separate shower. A functional woodstove is located in the living room and may be used by guests familiar with wood burning stoves. Firewood is located at the home. Please do not bring any firewood to Le Ménil as this could endanger (invasive insects) the huge elm that has been shading the house since the civil war. Guests have access to the entire house and the lawn. There is a key box near the front door and two additional keys available inside. The alarm code will be provided to guests along with instructions for disarming. Feel free to message, email, text, or call anytime. I enjoy meeting new people so I would love to stop by and say hi if you prefer and if I'm available enjoy in person check in. Millersburg is a small rural town in Bourbon County, Kentucky. Most everybody knows each other and folks look out for one another. Most all of the houses in town were built before WW2 and quite a few have undergone restoration in the past few years. Millersburg is a small town and one can walk from one end to the other in about 20 minutes. We are about 8-10 minutes from paris and about 25-30 minutes off of I-75/64. There is no public transportation available in Bourbon County. Le Ménil is over 200 years old. With this comes more than 200 years of settling. Transitions between some rooms have slight step ups (2-3") that are not completely even. Also, there are no carpeted rooms in the house but there are throw and area rugs scattered about the house. Please be mindful of area rugs that may slide under foot. Guests with mobility limitations should use extra care when moving about the house. In the summer months even with the central air conditioning the second floor may become stuffy so a window unit will be installed to make the loft more comfortable. If you are arriving late in the evening and will be using the second floor please let us know and we will make sure the window unit is on for you. We will be as flexible as possible and early check is most always doable. in cases of back to back guests, check-in may be required in the mid to late afternoon. When Le Ménil was built it was customary for homes to be open for weary travelers passing through. We believe that the residents of this home lived on the right side and in the loft above while the left side was likely used as a room to be let to travelers on the Lexington and Maysville Turnpike, which at this time was a long, arduous, and sometimes dangerous journey. Le Ménil is conveniently located in the heart of Central Kentucky. It is a great place as a "base of operation" when exploring the region. 30-35 minutes to Lexington, Georgetown, Winchester, and Mount Sterling. 45 minutes to Maysville. 1 to 1 1/2 hours to Louisville, Cincinnati, and the Red River Gorge. Kayaks and canoes can be put in Hinkston Creek only a few hundred feet from the home. Less than 20 minutes to Ashford Acres Inn and Wedding Venue. 1 hour to the Arc Encounter. 35 minutes to Kentucky Horse Park. Restoration and preservation of local buildings is a passion of the owners and hosting this property is a means to cover the cost of the preservation of Le Ménil, one of the last remaining settlement era houses in the area. The hosts live just up the street and are available if needed. If there is a desire, they may be available to point out some areas of interest nearby. Le Menil is not owned by a corporation. It is not held by investors or managed by a company. It is owned by a family that has been in Millersburg for 3 generations. It was not restored by contractors but rather the owners on their days off. We take pride in this. This is a passion.
