Home in Merida
Description
Casa Reforma is a magnificent Art Deco house with soaring colonial ceilings, majestic wooden doors and multi-coloured original floor tiles. Walking into this house is like walking into the Merida of the 1920’s when it was one of the wealthiest cities in Latin America. The space We have kept the superb original details, including stained glass and wrought iron, but added modern touches in the kitchens like granite countertops and wooden cabinetry. There is a large fridge and stove and the kitchen is fully equipped for those who enjoy cooking. The two bathrooms are decorated, from floor to ceiling, in Crema Maya, a stunning local stone, and one of the showers is glass brick, a nod to Art Deco design. A Tempur-Pedic queen bed and an organic cotton kingsize bed are extremely comfortable ensuring a good night's sleep. All the plumbing and electricity is new- meaning you will have hot and plentiful water, which is not a given, in this ancient colonial city. There is a large, filtered, swimming pool ( a rarity in Merida!), featuring wide accessible stairs descending into the water. The pool, surrounded by graceful Areca Palm trees, provides a refreshing end to a long day of sightseeing. Banana, Frangipani and Calabash trees offer shade in the garden, and Flor de Desierto flowers add dashes of pink, red and white. Mexico has an abundance of exquisite butterflies, dragonflies, lizards and geckos and with this in mind we offer a pesticide free house and garden. All the windows and the huge wrought Iron doors have mosquito netting and door sweeps essential features in the Yucatan. Casa Reforma is conveniently situated in Merida’s historic centro and an easy walk to Paseo de Montejo (the Champs-Elyses of Merida) Parque Santa Ana, Parque Santiago, Plaza de Toros and Parque de La Iberica. The Saturday morning organic market, is just up the street. We have off-street private parking for a small car, which is practically non existent in this city. Otherwise Ubers and taxis are abundant and affordable.
