Description

My homestay is situated in the beautiful, quaint, and picturesque village of Phyang in the Leh district of Ladakh. A village that is working towards the resolution of being an “Organic Village” Our house is surrounded by farmland where we grow local vegetables and fruits. They are completely organic and without the use of any chemicals. We use the very same vegetables for cooking too. Staying with us, you'd be able to enjoy eating fresh and organically homegrown vegetables. The space My house is primarily made of stone and wood as seen in most of the homes in Ladakh. This is to endure the cold especially during winters. . You would be able to enjoy views of our vast garden and mountains. We also have a terrace where one can enjoy the towering view of the entire village, the farmlands and the mountains. Bonfires could also be arranged subject to availability and on prior notice at an extra cost. Other areas of the house will be shared with us. There are three washrooms for the rooms which are not attached but inside the house. The washrooms are well tiled and have western commodes, wash basin, shower and geysers for hot water. We also have a Dry toilet. Dry toilets have been Ladakh’s traditional way of being conscious of the environment. Dry toilets keep water usage at bay. The toilet consists of a small room with a hole in the floor. Earth and ash from the kitchen stove are added, thus aiding chemical decomposition, producing better fertilizer, and eliminating smells. Once a year the latrine is emptied at ground level and the waste is then transported to the fields, where it is used as fertilizers for the upcoming sowing season. Our dry toilets are especially useful in winter months when the water freezes. The kitchen and the living room will be shared too. There’s a TV in the living room for your entertainment. The kitchen also has a fridge and you could use it to store your food items. We have sea buckthorn and apricot trees available in the nearby areas. You can enjoy the juice and jam made of out these fruits while you’re here. You can also try the buckwheat cakes and barley biscuits made locally. Phone network and Internet: The network connectivity is good. Prepaid connections do not work here hence guests will have to switch to postpaid before arrival. Airtel, Jio and BSNL have the best network connectivity. Internet connectivity is good in the area. If required, Indian residents can easily purchase local sim cards by submitting aadhaar card. Culture: We speak Ladakhi language at home. We can speak Hindi with the guests and understand and reply in English a bit. Watch us harvesting in the fields, cooking traditional cuisine and enjoy listening to folklore. We could also take you for a walk around the village, in the beautiful alleys, lined with the traditional Ladakhi houses with beautiful golden large farmlands. We welcome you to our home to be a part of our family and for an authentic Ladakhi experience. Guest access You can access your rooms, the kitchen, dining, living room, and common areas like the garden, farmland, and terrace. Other things to note During winters there are chances of water supply being limited due to freezing of water. We however try our best to ascertain that guests do not face any issues and arrangements are made for the same. Heater can also be arranged at an extra cost if needed in the rooms.
