YOUR HOME-AWAY-FROM-HOME: The first thing you may notice about the property are the gardens surrounding the building (including raised beds and fruit trees), where the native plant array adds to the mountain retreat feel. You will likely see the gardener from time-to-time attending to his landscaping tasks, and the Owners invite you to pick harvest-ready fruits and vegetables for use during your stay. THE UPPER DECK & FIRE PIT: When you book the Lake Tomahawk House, you'll have the deck view of the lake and mountains with its own outdoor dining and sitting areas. You'll have exclusive use of the fire pit overlooking the lake just off the lower-level driveway/patio area. (We provide a bundle of wood for the fire pit to get you started. Fire pit tools are available at the Guest wood stack on the Suite patio.) THE LIVING/DINING AREAS: The House Great Room living area offers two large sofas, a comfy chair, and a recliner (with seating for 8), a gas fireplace and large-screen Smart TV. The dining table also has seating for 8 and the large kitchen island has 4 stools so the entire group can be present when the cooking happens. You can rest assured that you’ll always have a bright, spacious, and comfortable environment for your entire group with lake and mountain views from nearly every spot. THE KITCHEN: We are confident that our Guests (especially those who love to cook and eat) will enjoy the House kitchen where two or more can easily work side-by-side. The spacious cabinets and granite countertops, the Bosch major appliances (French-door cabinet-depth refrigerator, very quiet dishwasher, and stainless-steel oven, convection microwave and 36” 5-burner gas cooktop) – as well as the high-quality countertop appliances and drip and Keurig coffee makers and all the necessary pots and pans -- are sure to please the most demanding cooks. We also provide a great assortment of herbs, spices and other goodies to get you started. (You'll find a Weber charcoal grill in the garage for use on the upper driveway, and we provide a small bag of charcoal to get you started.) THE BEDROOMS, BATHROOM & LAUNDRY AREA: All House sleeping areas are spacious and comfortable: the Master BR (13x17) with a king bed, the Main Guest BR (12x12) with a king bed, the 3rd BR/Office (12x12) with a daybed expandable to 2 side-by-side twins (counted as a king bed in this listing), and the Bonus Room (300 sq ft) above the garage with an Ethan Allen queen air-mattress sofa-bed. The Master Bath has a soaking tub, large shower, separate toilet, two vanities, and a walk-in closet; the Guest bathroom has a tub/shower combo; and the mudroom bathroom has a shower. The laundry space off the mudroom has a high-capacity washer and dryer. And don’t forget the exercise equipment (recumbent bike, rowing machine, bench, and some light weights) in the Bonus Room. ENTERTAINMENT & WORKSPACE CONNECTIVITY: The House is served by high-speed Internet with Wi-Fi throughout the property. There are Smart TVs in the Great Room, the Main Guest BR, and the Bonus Room with subscriptions for YouTube TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and Spotify. There is no land-line phone, but the cell connectivity is good for most providers (you may wish to check your provider's website for their signal-strength map) and your smartphones and other digital devices may have the capability to make calls using the Wi-Fi network. In case of emergency, the home security and automation system panel provides immediate connectivity to first responders (fire/police/medical) through the monitoring center (details in the Welcome Packet). If you want to (or have to) bring your work with you, we provide remote office spaces off the Great Room and in the 3rd BR/Office -- each with a desk. (We do not provide a printer.) DISCOUNT & LENGTH OF STAY NOTES: DISCOUNTS for 7+, 14+, 21+, and 28-night stays are calculated automatically when you book, but we may be able to offer significantly higher than standard discounts depending on your preferred dates. CONTACT the OWNERS, ideally PRIOR TO BOOKING, to see if we can make a SPECIAL OFFER for your stay. STAYS OF 29-90 NIGHTS are considered on a case-by-case basis and may be limited to a maximum of 5 persons -- typically 1-2 adults, up to 3 kids, and (as with a standard booking) NO pets. TO BEGIN THE PROCESS, you may MESSAGE THE OWNERS through the listing with your preferred dates and group makeup -- as our standard limit of 28 nights prevents Reservation Requests for 29+ nights. ***Stays of 90 nights in NC are classified as long-term and are therefore not subject to the 13% lodging tax. On the main listing page scroll down to "Things to know / Safety & property / Show more / Property info / Pet(s) live on the property" Guest access All House interior and exterior spaces described in this listing are accessible to your group, with the exception of two locked Owner's closets (one in the Guest area hallway and one of the two Master Bedroom walk-in closets) and a few dresser drawers marked "Private". The garage is accessible to Guests only for placing trash and recycling into the appropriate containers and for accessing the charcoal grill for use outside. NOTE that what AirBnB labels an "Exterior Security Camera" on the property is actually in the garage. (The mudroom door immediately to the left of the stairwell to the Bonus Room will be locked as it leads to a stairwell and hallway that connect to the Suite/lower level, and will be open only when Guests rent the House and Suite together.) Vacation rental Guests always have exclusive use of the upper driveway and fire pit area off the lower level. (Please do not park in the lower driveway, as it may be needed from time-to-time by landscape or other service personnel.) Other things to note While the Owners do not rent the House (upstairs) and the Suite (downstairs) to two separate/unaffiliated vacation rental groups at the same time (and although it has never happened), it is possible that in extraordinary circumstances the Owners may need to be in the Suite during part or all of your stay in the House -- and they will always be mindful/respectful of the presence of vacation rental Guests in the House spaces. In such an instance (and although we installed special noise-dampening insulation between levels) you may from time-to-time hear them in the downstairs spaces or on the lower patio, and they may need to park in the lower driveway adjacent to the fire-pit area. (*** Guests always have exclusive use of the fire pit area.) Please CONTACT THE OWNERS, ideally PRIOR TO booking, if you wish to learn whether they plan to be downstairs in the Suite during your stay in the House. When we have another group departing on your arrival date and/or arriving on your departure date, we'll need to do a same-day turnover cleaning to properly prepare the space for the incoming group. This can result in us not being able to offer your group early-arrival prior to the standard 4 PM and/or late-departure after the standard 10 AM. For details, see the "Early-Arrival/Late-Departure" section in this listing's House Rules. In the case of an outgoing House & Suite (whole-house) or Suite/downstairs group departing on your House arrival date, although your unit will be prepared not-later-than the 4PM standard arrival time our cleaning team may not be able to finish the Suite/downstairs unit prior to your arrival -- so you may hear some cleaning sounds from downstairs the afternoon of and/or the day after your arrival. Our cleaning team would park in the lower driveway adjacent to -- without blocking your access to -- the fire-pit area. Landscape personnel will be present from time-to-time, and we will attempt to inform Guests whenever their task includes anything beyond weed-whacking (and the like) in the ditch areas. Other service visits will be coordinated with the Guest and the local Guest Contact will be present as needed.
