The old farmhouse

Experience the beautiful area of Berner Oberland while living as a local in what once used to be an old farmhouse in the mountain town of Interlaken. The perfect town to live in (thanks to the train connections) in order to explore the magnificent Jungfrau region. The space At the moment there is a big construction (development of houses) happening opposite the street during the working hours of the weekdays . 07:00-12:00 and 13:00-17:00 or 18:00. Take that into consideration if you like to sleep until late hours during the day. INTRODUCTION & DECORATION Welcome to our beloved old farmhouse, a treasured place with a rich history dear to our family's hearts. This is a ground floor apartment (perfect for every size of luggage therefore) and is part of a bigger house (there a few apartments in the house where locals live). Originally this space, along with the neighbouring studio once served as part of the farmhouse where animals were housed, and tools and provisions were stored. Inside the booklet provided in the apartment, you'll find the the story of our grandfather and how this came to be. Now it has been transformed into cozy flats where my brothers and I used to reside, it retains the charm of its past while offering modern comforts. Our farmhouse has undergone a heartfelt renovation, infused with love and care at every step. Many of the furniture pieces and decorations you'll find were crafted by our own hands. From the handmade furniture to the vintage books lovingly picked up from the streets by guests, every object in our space has its own interesting and often funny story to tell. Take a moment to admire the photos adorning the walls, the old family piano that has seen so many melodies, the lake stones collected at its shores, and the hours spent scouring the forest or our basements for the perfect wood. We tried to create a home filled with warmth and character. 
ENTRANCE Upon entering the flat, you'll find a cozy and spacious entrance area with a bench, a small recycling area under the bench, hooks for jackets, a big mirror, shoe storage space and a handmade chair. There is also a wooden closet inside which you will find some basics like a vacuum cleaner, detergent etc. 
 BIG BEDROOM -Main bed with a mattress measuring 180x200cm / 70x78 inches. -Provides extra space at the end for sitting. -Prepared with two large pillows measuring 65x100cm / 25x39inches and two smaller pillows measuring 50x60cm / 19x23inches. -Each guest receives a separate duvet blanket with a cover measuring 160x210cm / 63x82 inches. -When booking for two, the main bed will be prepared, while the two single beds in the other room will have fresh bedsheets only. -Guests can transfer pillows and blankets from the main bed to the smaller room if they prefer separate sleeping arrangements. -Highest quality Swiss medium-hard mattresses. -Light-blocking curtains for a comfortable night's sleep.

SMALL BEDROOM
-Two single beds measuring 90x200cm / 35.4 x 78.7 inches -Bedroom separated from the rest of the flat with a door for privacy. -Each bed comes with fresh bedsheets, a pillow measuring 50x60cm / 19x23inches and a duvet with a duvet cover measuring 160x210cm / 62x82 inches. DEDICATED WORK SPACE In the same big area where the living room and dinning room are, there is also a cozy office corner. We made it from the very very old wood that was part of the farmhouse. There is a shelf for you to store some important documents, a trash bin for paper waste, light and a comfy leather chair. The working space of the table measures 127x75cm / 50x29 inches.
 KITCHEN The kitchen is complete with all essentials for enjoyable meals. It includes cutlery, pots, pans, plates and glasses, a fridge with a freezer, oven and induction stove, a Delizio coffee machine, microwave, kettle and much more (check our amenities). On the other side of the kitchen is a kitchen island that serves as extra storage, provides additional cutting space and is in general a cute place to quickly snack something since there are 2 bar chairs on one side of it. There is also an old white closet in this room inside which we store some basic cleaning products. We ask you to refrain from using them unless you are certain what each product is meant for. Mouse of cleaning products has led to great damages in the past.
 LIVING ROOM & DINNING ROOM Step into the warmth of our farmhouse-inspired living room, where the rustic charm of wooden ceilings and walls embraces you like a familiar hug. There are a lot of small imperfections in this space that somehow only add to its history and cozy feeling. Like the slightly uneven floor of the old houses for example. Natural light spills in from windows on two sides, casting a gentle glow that dances across the space. Sink into the inviting couch to enjoy movie nights and quiet moments alike. With a generous 55-inch Samsung TV at your disposal, complete with Netflix and Wi-Fi connectivity (no channel connection), you can easily lose yourself in your favourite shows and films. Please treat our cozy couch with care, keeping it reserved for lounging rather than sleeping for hygiene reasons (If special cleaning of the couch is required that will have to be charged extra). As you relax, take in the personal touches that make this space uniqe. Adorned with photos capturing cherished memories from our hikes around the area, and housing my trusty old wooden storage box that once held my construction tools, this living room exudes a sense of authenticity and history. Looking outside the window you can see the neighborhood road and beautiful mountains behind. The living room provides access to an unfenced outdoor area from where you have a beautiful view. BATHROOM Our bathroom is very very small yet complete with all the necessities. A bathtub with glass protection, a window for natural light, a sink, a large mirror, and plenty of illumination through strong light bulbs. Enjoy the convenience of provided amenities, including a hair dryer, shower gel, and shampoo, along with three towels per guest: one large, one medium, and one small. Our bathtub measures 147cm in length and 60cm in width (narrowing down to 40cm where the feet are due to its rounded shape at the bottom part). For longer stays, towel change is available upon request after 5 days. To maintain quality, we kindly request guests not to wash the towels themselves, as they require professional laundering with specialised detergents and temperatures. Additionally, we aim to minimise energy usage by avoiding small loads in the washing machine. OUTDOOR There are 2 outdoor areas for you to enjoy. Just steps away from the living room, you'll find a comfortable sitting lounge set for four, ideal for enjoying the sun, a snack or a smoke. Surrounded by plants that change with the seasons (This might mean flowers but might also mean some empty branches), this spot offers a beautiful mountain view but lacks privacy due to its proximity to the street. However, being right in front of your personal parking area adds convenience and makes it easy to pack and unpack. At the back of the house is a shared outdoor space, featuring a spacious grassy area perfect for sunbathing and a covered table area with a fire pit for gatherings. Since it's shared, you may find personal items from other residents scattered about, but it adds to the communal vibe. HEATING SYSTEM Our apartment is heated by radiators connected to a central heating system, which only runs during colder months. If you arrive on the very first cold days of the season, the heating might not be fully on yet. The heating is adjustable. The radiators in the apartment can be controlled from the side. Number 5 is the highest setting. The room temperature won’t heat up above 20-22 degrees Celsius. This is the standard in Switzerland. For example if it’s a warm day outside it’s very likely that the radiators feel cold. COOLING SYSTEM In this region of Switzerland, air conditioners are not commonly found in homes. The way us locals ensure our homes remain pleasantly cool during the warmest days is by closing the windows, drawing all curtains, and even shutting exterior window shutters/skylights while we are out exploring or working during the day. These proactive measures prevent the homes from heating up excessively. As nightfall brings cooler temperatures, we open the windows to welcome some fresh air. Inside the flat, you will also find a 2 standing fans, which can be used to enhance airflow and create a pleasant breeze. LAUNDRY ROOM Conveniently located on the ground floor next to your apartment, you'll find our laundry room easily identifiable by a clear sign on the door. Just step out and look to the right. Inside, you'll have access to both a washing machine and a dryer, along with hanging lines for air-drying. We provide complimentary detergent for your convenience. The washing machine is available for free use and is shared with other residents of the house. Guest access The apartment is located on the ground floor. There is no staircase to go up, only 2-3 steps. Other things to note 1. We encourage you to write us a message in case you have any questions or problems. We do care for you to have a beautiful time in Interlaken and would be happy to help you with any reasonable requests! 2. Sometimes an important main ingredient/amenity might be missing from our apartment or our kitchen like olive oil, vinegar or coffee capsules. If that is the case for you we would be happy to pay for that product as long as you leave it after your stay again in the apartment and send us a photo of the bill. If we forgot to replace something and it's missing like the toaster etc please remind us so we can find a solution. 3. Interlaken is a small town completely surrounded by nature and in turn many living organisms. For that reason we would ask you to keep in mind that not all our windows have mosquito nets and if you desire to fill the apartment with fresh air, open only the windows that do have a mosquito net. In this way you can avoid any bees, mosquitos and other insects. 4. Our TV only has Netflix and YouTube. 5. Don’t forget to bring with you an adapter when traveling. We used to always provide our guests with adapters ourselves but sadly no matter how many we got they all disappeared. 6. We would appreciate it so much if you could let us know in case you spot any damage from previous guests or cause by accident damage yourself. This is something than can happen to anyone and transparency can prove truly helpful in such moments. POTENTIAL DRAWBACKS: In the spirit of transparency, we would like to address a few points that some guests may consider as potential drawbacks. We would like to provide you with all the necessary information, allowing you to make an informed decision about your stay with us. -The outside sitting area (the one outside the living room) is no longer fenced. The land across our street was bought and construction has now begun there. We probably won't have the same beautiful Mountain View anymore in some time as we used to. -Small bathroom with a narrow bathtub for taking showers that is not ideal for taller guests. Another aspect to note is that the bathtub drain operates at a slightly slower pace compared to modern systems. To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all, we kindly request that after each shower, guests take a moment to collect any hair that may have accumulated and dispose of it appropriately. This simple practice will help maintain the optimal functioning of the drain and prevent any potential inconveniences during your stay. -Please be aware that the office desk may emit a few squeaky noises if moved too forcefully. We experienced an incident where some of our guests inadvertently moved and applied excessive pressure on the desk, causing the old wood to crack under their weight. We've taken measures to reinforce the desk, but we kindly ask for your understanding and gentle handling to prevent further damage.
