The house is perfect for family reunions, groups visiting the area for walking/cycling, or couples just seeking peace! Your dog is welcome too. A large dining kitchen space with sofa, + a stylish cosy snug where you can relax in front of the wood burning stove. 2 double bedrooms, a twin bedroom, a shower room and separate wc upstairs and an extra wc downstairs. You have the entire old house and enclosed courtyard to yourselves, we live in an attached separate annexe and are there only if needed. The space We are Helen and Mick, and our house is a beautiful historic building where you can be cosy and comfortable in what is a typical Bishop's Castle house. Like the town itself it leans in different directions and has a very special charm. It has been recently decorated and newly carpeted and feels light and clean while still retaining its family portraits, original art, and antiquarian books which you can enjoy browsing through. The house has oil-fired central heating, hot water, and a fully equipped kitchen where you can be completely at home. We want you to sleep well; all four beds have brand new, very comfortable, excellent quality traditional pocket sprung mattresses with Umi down and feather duvets and new white linen, for a super comfortable and luxury sleep. There are two staircases (one of which is very old and beautiful with no central newel post) and a handy spacious area just inside the front door where you can leave boots, coats, rucksacks and dog leads. Parking is on street and we will always try to ensure you have a space right outside for your arrival. Further parking is available at the bottom of Welsh Street. We are very close to the centre of the town and a short two minute walk will take you to the cafes, pubs and shops in this lively little town. French doors lead into a pretty courtyard where you can enjoy the sun and light the Kadai firebowl for longer evenings. Whether you are here to go to events in our lively town, - Arts Festival 14th-18th February , Beer festival, Carnival, and the massively popular Michaelmas Fair on 21st September with steam engine parade and all day live music, perhaps The Clun Green Man Festival 5/6th May 2024, or to walk in the astonishingly beautiful and tranquil Shropshire Area of Natural Beauty - you will find plenty to do. One of the best sections of Offa's Dyke is within five miles. We are on hand if you want personal advice on where to visit that day, or you can consult our online House Guide which contains ideas. The dining room has a good collection of walking land visitor guides for inspiration and also local Ordnance Survey maps which you are welcome to borrow during your stay. Bishop's Castle itself has the Three Tuns pub and The Castle hotel (voted best pub garden) the wonderful Poetry Pharmacy and Simpsons home and gift shop as well as second hand bookshop, antique shops, Textile Traders and others. for an idea of BC live music look at town hall and SpArc websites, also Clun Valley Jazz for events. We live in an attached annexe but you need not know we are there unless you want to ask us anything. Please note: The bedroom floors upstairs tend to be uneven and slope in different directions - the beds are level but in some areas the floors are not! CHILDREN There are two staircases, one of which is not very suitable for children as it is very old, uneven, and has no central newel post. We do however provide stairgates for the top of both staircases. We do ask that children treat the furnishings and contents of the house with respect as it is our family home. A small selection of books, games and puzzles for children and adults are to be found in the green chest of drawers. WELCOME PACK Upon arrival there will be a few breakfast essentials waiting for you including fresh ground coffee, tea bags, milk and bread. We also leave you a log supply for your first night's fire!
