The Zelek House
With a convenient location and charming interior, The Zelek House offers its guests a comforting, cozy stay. As a tribute to locals who lived and loved well in their homes for many decades, The Zelek House embodies a sense of family and warmth within its walls. Enjoy the original hardwood floors, a few of Ms. Zelek's pieces of furniture, and other relics to honor our local people and past. Enjoy this unique "base camp" while visiting our National Park and sites in southern West Virginia. The space Built in 1946, The Zelek House is a small 946-sq. feet cinder block structure with 2 bedrooms, 1 living room, 1 eat-in kitchen, and 1 small bathroom. The bathroom, not being in the original layout of the house, currently has room for a stand-up shower, small sink, and toilet. The kitchen is spacious, with a small table for two. There are extra folding chairs for the table, however, to make room for 4. There is no dishwasher in the kitchen. The bedrooms are comfortable with soft bedding and extra pillows for a restful night's sleep. Each of the bedrooms hold a unique piece of furniture (or two) that belonged to the Zelek family. In the large bedroom, the original bedroom dresser and vanity continue to be put to good use, and in the smaller bedroom, the red chair provides inspiration for color and unexpected fun in coordinating with other red accents. The backyard, once home to a real outhouse, is large and sloping, and even a place to see crawdads at the bottom of the hill in the small creek bed. Guest access Guests have full access to the entire property. Both parking pads are available, although caution must be exercised in pulling out of the lower parking pad onto the main road. Please park only 1 car on each of the parking pads. Other things to note The Zelek House is old with some imperfections, yet it holds charm and character. Its original pieces should be treated kindly so that we can continue to honor the Zeleks and the idea of paying homage to the past. Please make sure to sign the guest book and leave a part of your adventure behind for others to read.
