Covered Bridge Cabin (on Big Walnut Creek)
Covered Bridge Cabin (on Big Walnut Creek)
Description
Retreat and renew in this charming one-room cabin right by Big Walnut Creek and Baker's Camp Covered Bridge. Fish, kayak, or swim; hike or birdwatch in a nearby preserve; read, write, find inspiration. With sweet-smelling poplar walls, the cabin offers a full bed by a picture window, small TV, writer's desk/library, AC, fans, baseboard heat, kitchenette, toilet, sink, outdoor shower (before first frost), small porch, grill, and a fire pit. (No wifi in cabin!) Simple and beautiful. The space This quiet, secluded cabin is located in the woods up a little hill on a larger property that has a main house further down the driveway. But cabin guests give up nothing in privacy. The cabin, closer to where the covered bridge spans the creek, is tucked securely in the woods. The cabin is cooled by a window air conditioner and/or fans in summer and warmed by baseboard heaters in cooler months; it contains a full sized bed by a picture window with pillows, sheets, and blankets, towels and toiletries; a small tv with a collection of dvds, a large desk/table with a working electric typewriter, shelves of books, games, and office supplies for your use. There's a toilet hidden by a screen and a sink with hot/cold water. The kitchenette area offers a mini-fridge, microwave, and water dispenser, along with glasses, mugs, disposable eating utensils and tableware, tea and instant coffee, etc. Outside, there's a little front porch with two chairs and small table, an outdoor shower (available in warmer months), a grill, and a fire pit. Guest access Guests park off to the side of the driveway near the cabin and must walk up a little hill and two steps to access it. You'll have ready access to Big Walnut Creek (including loading your kayaks in or out). The creek is best accessed by crossing the covered bridge, and turning right to the easy slope to the water. The water is deeper under the bridge if you want to swim. If you keep walking along the mowed area across the creek, you'll find a path to a pebbly beach, which is a lovely place to wade and play in more shallow water. Other things to note There are barbecue tools etc. including charcoal and LIGHTER FLUID in a bag under the desk. Please note lighter fluid is extremely flammable as well as poisonous and can be fatal if swallowed. Also, please note the outdoor shower is not winterized, so it's only available in warmer months when the pipes will not freeze, usually from mid-April through October.
