Stay in Etna's historic ice house - the best walkable rental in town! Brand new private deck overlooks the field where horse races ran 100 years ago. Hear live music from Etna Brewery (2-minute walk) while sipping morning coffee on your deck. Walk to Denny Bar, Farmhouse Bakery, and all of downtown. Spacious kitchen, three cozy bedrooms, perfect home base for outdoor adventures. As a 5-year Superhost, I'm here to make your Siskiyou County escape memorable. The space Welcome to Etna's Historic Ice House - a charming 1940s home with original extra-thick walls that once kept ice cold year-round for this mining, timber, and farming town. The best part? Your brand new private deck overlooks the pastoral field where Etna held horse races 100 years ago - and you can hear live music from Etna Brewery just 2 minutes away! The Deck Experience: Your private deck is perfect for morning coffee as you gaze over the historic horse racing field. On music nights, Etna Brewery's live performances drift across the field - you're close enough to enjoy the vibe without the crowds. This is hands-down the best walkable location in Etna. The Style: This home has serious personality! Expect a memorable, eclectic, stylish mishmash of decor featuring beautiful homemade quilts and curtains sewn by the owner (a skilled sewist). Every room has character - this isn't cookie-cutter Airbnb decor, it's authentic and warm. Kitchen & Dining: Spacious, well-equipped kitchen with ample counter space and everything you need to cook meals. Much larger than typical small-town rentals. Sunny dining area perfect for lingering over breakfast before your adventures. Living Room: Comfortable and inviting space to relax after a day of hiking or an evening at the local bars. Bedrooms (sleeps 6): Master Bedroom (downstairs): Queen bed adjacent to living area Upstairs Bedroom 1: Full bed, ceiling fans, views of the street, infrared heater for winter Upstairs Bedroom 2: Cozy full bed with treetop views overlooking the historic pasture Bathroom: One full bathroom with tub/shower combo. Laundry: In-unit washer and dryer for your convenience. Outdoor Space: Small yard (unfenced) plus deck with field views. The Character: Original thick ice house walls provide natural insulation and keep this place comfortable year-round. The historic bones combined with the eclectic, handmade touches make this a truly one-of-a-kind stay. Walkability - The Best in Etna: Etna Brewery: 2-minute walk (live music several nights!) Denny Bar (SF Chronicle-featured): 4-minute walk Farmhouse Bakery: 3-minute walk Grocery store, post office, library, coffee shops: all within 5 minutes Five Mary's Burgerhouse (of social media fame): 12-mile scenic drive Your Home Base: Perfect for outdoor adventurers who want to hike, bike, or explore Siskiyou County by day, then walk home to great food and drinks by night. No need to drive after dinner - it's a 2-4 minute stroll home from the brewery or Denny Bar! Guest access The entire historic ice house is yours! Check-in: Self check-in with keypad entry (code provided in the Airbnb app before arrival) Parking: Free on-site parking What's included: Full access to all three bedrooms, kitchen, living room, bathroom, laundry, yard, and the private deck overlooking the historic horse racing field. Getting around: This is the most walkable location in Etna. Everything you need - restaurants, bars, brewery, bakery, grocery - is within a 5-minute walk. Perfect for a car-free evening of bar hopping, then stroll home to your cozy historic retreat. Other things to note About This Historic Property: This is Etna's original ice house from the 1940s with walls twice as thick as normal homes - built to keep ice frozen year-round for the mining and timber town. You're staying in a piece of local history! House Rules: No pets and no smoking (strictly enforced to maintain a clean, allergen-free space for all guests) All guests must be listed by full name when booking Quiet hours 10pm-8am (though you might hear brewery music on weekends - part of the charm!) Cooling the Home: This home has no central AC, but the original thick ice house walls provide natural insulation. At 2,800 feet elevation, nighttime temps reliably drop into the 50s-60s even in summer. Open windows in the evening and close them in the morning to stay comfortable. Daytime summer highs are typically 80-90°F. Winter Weather: Etna occasionally gets snow in winter, but rarely more than a foot. Roads are usually clear within a few hours, so winter travel is manageable. Cell Service: Some cell carriers may not have perfect service in Etna. We provide a landline for local and emergency calls. Wifi is reliable at 14 Mbps. The Vibe: This is the perfect choice if you want to walk to dinner and drinks, hear live music from your deck, and experience Etna's micro-nightlife scene. It's more social and lively than typical mountain town stays - ideal for couples or groups who want easy access to Etna's best spots.
