Woodsy Lair in Historic Middletown Valley!

Warm and charming lower level studio of an historic 1840's home. While extensively renovated, we preserved the original stone fireplace (with new electric insert) and staircase to showcase old-world craftsmanship. With a plush pillow-top full-size mattress, and comfortable sofa bed, the Lair sleeps up to 4 people. The full bathroom is equipped with a tub/shower combo, and the kitchenette is stocked with utensils, a microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and refrigerator. The space The top two floors of the home are a separate vacation rental listing, as is the log cabin pictured in a couple of pictures. This 1840's home was reportedly the center of the small town of Mount Tabor during the Civil War. According to local folklore, General Grant spent one night in this home while troops moved through the area. Guest access The house is in the foot hills of the Maryland Mountains near world class golf resorts, ski resorts, shopping, antiquing, fantastic hiking, and some of the nation’s most important historic battlefields. Not only is this the perfect house for a private romantic retreat, it is the perfect launching pad for a small family or group of friends to tour the nearby battlefields, to go for hikes along the AT or through the numerous state and federal parks in the area, or to enjoy some world class golf. The cabin is very near historic battlefields such as Antietam, Monocacy, Gettysburg, and Harpers Ferry. Gorgeous historic towns are nearby, such as Boonsboro, Middletown, and Thurmont, and even downtown Frederick. Hiking trails as well as state and federal parks are everywhere. Greenbriar State Park is great for swimming in the lake and picnics with the family. Gambrill State Park, at five minutes away, can’t be beat for walking the dog with great vistas of the valley. There are at least five blazed trails of varying difficulty and length. If you like to ski, you’ll find Whitetail, Liberty, and Round Top within thirty minutes drive! For golf it will be tough to choose between Beaver Creek, Musket Ridge, or Maryland National. There are great spas in nearby Middletown or Boonsboro and you can’t beat the shopping at the Hagerstown Prime Outlets, about 15 minutes away Other things to note Because there is another unit on the upper floors of the house (The Poplar Place), we ask guests to refrain from excessive noise after 11 pm. We offer special discounts for renting multiple units on the property, check with me for details. Pets under about 50 lbs are welcomed at an additional fee of $40 per pet, per stay, but must be crated when unattended. I can make exceptions to the fee structure for small dogs or multiple pets. In support of the global effort to conserve energy resources utilizing reasonable practices, we have installed Ecobee “smart” thermostats in all of our listings that the guests can also control. The thermostats are preset with a maximum heating setting of 71 degrees and a minimum cooling setting of 72 degrees. If you are booking on behalf of a Travel Business, Airbnb staff has advised us to collect photo IDs of guests that will actually be at the property (if those guests do not already have a valid Airbnb account).
