The historic ‘Black Castle’ is set on the peaceful shores of Loch Creran on the West Coast of Scotland, near Oban. Barcaldine Castle is one of only a few ancient castles open to guests on the Scottish mainland. Set against breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains of Glencoe, our castle is truly a unique place to rent for an exclusive use stay with friends and family. The space Six period en-suite guest bedrooms, furnished with antiques and luxurious soft furnishings. Barcaldine Castle is over 400 years old. It has been sympathetically restored to offer comfortable guest accommodation with modern bathrooms and wifi throughout. The Great Hall on the first floor offers a large, atmospheric space in which to dine and sit by the fire. The smaller Laird's Parlour is a more intimate sitting room , also with an open fire and bar area for bringing your own drinks. The Kitchen has a commercial cooker, plenty of fridge space, commercial dishwasher and is set up as a catering kitchen where you can cook for yourselves or hire in a breakfast and dinner chef. There is a laundry with washing machine and dryers. Large garden and patio area. Plenty of parking space. We have 2 folding beds which can be put into 3 of the bedrooms to sleep children at an additional cost of £80 per night. Please note that these beds are only suitable for young people up to aged 25 years. 2 small dogs by arrangement. Please phone to discuss. The castle operates as a pet free bed and breakfast in summer. For winter exclusive use hires 2 small dogs are permitted on the understanding that they are allowed in the downstairs rooms, not on the sofas and are only permitted to to sleep in the bedrooms in a crate. Guest access Most of the building is available for exclusive use hires. Just one basement room is locked off. Other things to note If you wish to hold a wedding or event at the castle during your stay, we charge a surcharge of £100 to £165 per person.
