Welcome to your family-friendly retreat in the Shenandoah Valley. Our studio space is minutes from downtown Bridgewater and close to hiking, shopping, Bridgewater College or 12 minutes to JMU/Harrisonburg area. Our studio has a private keyless entry, keurig machine, complimentary snacks, filtered water and private full bath and plenty of space. Enjoy the private wooded setting in a quiet residential neighborhood for rest while you explore all that the valley has to offer. Our space is a private studio apartment in the basement of our home. It is one large space separated by stairs that are locked from our side (we live upstairs). Upon entrance you will enjoy a kitchenette area with a keurig , coffee supplies, mini-fridge with separate freezer space, filtered counter-top water dispenser, dishes for kids and adults for small meals, and a couch and television equipped with Roku. On the other side of the stairs is a bedroom area with a queen bed and dresser. There is also a bunk bed (full on the bottom and twin on top). Additionally, the living area couch can become a pull out bed. There is a closet of toys for children, a chalk board wall with chalk and the private bathroom is on the other side of the space equipped with a heated floor. Outdoors we welcome guests to share our back deck with a propane grill and a 6 person seated table. We also have a fire pit, a hammock and a playground that guests are welcome to use at their own risk. ** We do have three young children that can be heard upstairs from 7 AM - 7 PM). Please do not book our space if this does not suit you. Our driveway is about 1/10 mile long. Instructions to find our driveway will be sent to you after booking. There is a private parking area for easy turnaround in our driveway as you drive up to the house. Once you park, you'll walk up the path to the main house, but before you would walk up the stairs, there is a stone path to the right of the stairs up to the main house. Follow the concrete pavers around the side of the house to the private entrance. There you will find the door with the keypad entry. The access is not handicap friendly due to the slope of the hill. You will be staying minutes in a quiet neighborhood on the edge of Bridgewater. Everything you need is just minutes away! Groceries are minutes away at Bridgewater Foods or 8 minutes towards Harrisonburg at Walmart. Drive downtown and visit Bridgewater's restaurants. Here are some of our favorites: 1. Magnolia's Taco Bar: Amazing assortment tacos and other Mexican fare 2. Sugar and Bean: Great coffee and food in a refurbished house downtown 3. El Charro: Delicious Mexican food and a favorite local spot. 4. The Cracked Pillar Pub: A great date night spot! If you're looking for dessert, don't miss a chance to go to Smiley's, a homemade creamery 7 minutes away with new flavors every week. Just 3 minutes away is Anita's, a local bakery with delicious donuts. There are many popular parks, not 5 minutes away. Two favorites are: 1. Wildwood Park: Feed the ducks, walk the trials or let the children play on the wonderful playground equipment, including big slides for bigger kids. Not to mention the suspension bridge over the North River and overlook of the small waterfall. 2. Oakdale Park: This is a huge park with picnic areas, baseball fields, a running track, open fields and popular playground areas. You will be located 5 minutes from Bridgewater College, which features beautiful open spaces and nice walks along the North River. Keep driving and you will come to Sandy Bottom Park where you can enjoy the picnic area along the river, a 9-hole Par 3 course and mini-golf. Go west to enjoy the Mennonite markets in Montezuma or hiking at Paul State Penn Forest. Drive 20 minutes to enjoy a shallow river play area at Riven Rock Park. Dayton is only 5 minutes away and features cute shops full of homemade items. Finally, you aren't far from Harrisonburg. Drive through the farmland for no more than 15 minutes to arrive at JMU. Harrisonburg features a mix of chain and local stores, restaurants and shops. There are parks and the university offers stunning views of the valley from the portion of campus east of 81. Whether you look to enjoy the city or get away, Bridgewater offers it all. You will be driving up a long, paved driveway up to the property. Not to worry - the road is easy to navigate. There is a gravel parking area that can fit two cars that is reserved for guests. This offers an easy turn-around so that you will not be backing out of the driveway. We ask for 24-48 hours for booking notice as we use our space for our family in between guests and need appropriate time to prepare the space for guests. Our basement studio is not handicap friendly due to the entrance being on the side of our house that is slightly sloped as well as a stone pathway that is on a sloped hill. The space is in the basement of our year-round home. We have three children under the age of 8 that can be heard upstairs during the day time (there is no sound barrier). They can be heard around 7 AM and are all in bed by 8 PM. Two sound machines are included in the nightstand for your restful sleep. Our space is not ideal for someone looking for a place to quietly work from home. The basement space does stay cooler in both the summer and the winter than the upstairs and it is not separately climate-controlled. Please be mindful to bring clothing for sleeping that keeps you comfortable if you are prone to being chilly. Space heater will be provided for guests in the winter months. The propane furnace does work, but we choose not to use it due to the cost of propane currently.
