Description

Just past Alpine city limits, quiet and with great views close to town. This is an Adobe house built in the 1950’s with natural earthen floors made of clay brick. The back yard backs up to an undeveloped ranch, providing privacy and open spaces- with plenty of deer, fox, javelina, and bird of prey passing through. The Milky Way can be observed from this location. The Ranchito is a quick 25 minute drive from Marfa. Alpine is a great spot to access all points of the Big Bend. The space There is a front porch as well as a screened in back porch. Relax and enjoy a beautiful view of twin peaks and surrounding mountains from the front porch, or enjoy the shade of our tiny orchard in the backyard, adjacent to wild ranch lands where deer, javelina, fox, and other wildlife roam freely. The Ranchito is an Adobe house built in 1950, with waxed clay brick floors. All bedrooms have doors which open to the outdoors. The larger bedroom has a king bed, also has an adjoining room with a day bed. The laundry room has a washer and dryer. The kitchen is large with lots of natural light, with a 5 burner gas stove, oven, and mini oven. The living room is large with shelves full of books, cabinets full of toys and games, and plenty of comfortable seating. For a short while the Ranchito served as a massage studio with one private room and bathroom for Airbnb guests. (Some of our reviews reflect this) Now, the house is rented as one complete and private space. It is a 5min easy drive or a ten minute bike ride to downtown Alpine. Visitors can enjoy access to all the sites without dealing with traffic and intense train noise. The house is located just beyond the southwest edge of Alpine, and a quick and beautiful 25 min drive to Marfa. Other things to note For those guests who love to hike and explore unchartered territory- ask to be put in touch with our friend and long time hiking and repelling guide. Pam has permission to access private lands around Alpine for hikes to springs, canyons, and beautiful summits like Mitre Peak. For those with a little more advanced notice, repelling and rock climbing excursions are available. Big Bend is a very large area that requires many days, years, lifetimes to explore! Choosing to make your base in Alpine offers the advantage of being in the center of the entire Big Bend region, and able to access all locations such as the McDonald observatory, Marfa, the Davis mountains, Marathon, and Big Bend National and State parks! Alpine is also a fun and quaint town, with lots of great events, music, art galleries, coffee shops, bars and restaurants- not to mention the amazing views!
