#6 Desert Moon Southwest Room

Description

The Southwest Room is a bold, colorful space inspired by the desert itself. With a classic Southwestern geometric mural in warm earth tones, it feels rooted in the spirit of the Wild West. The room is located at the historic Desert Moon Inn, a 1936 boarding house turned artistic desert stay in the ghost town of Thompson Springs, Utah. Just off I-70 beneath the Book Cliffs, Desert Moon makes a memorable base for exploring Moab, Arches, Canyonlands, and the surrounding canyon country. The space The Southwest Room is one of the most regionally inspired spaces in the inn, and a great fit for guests who want their stay to feel connected to the landscape around them. With its teal walls, desert-toned mural, and strong Southwestern feel, it captures a little of the color, history, and adventurous spirit that make this part of Utah so memorable. Guests have their own private room, while 2 bathrooms and a small shared kitchenette are shared between the 6 rooms in the inn. The kitchenette includes a microwave, mini-fridge, and toaster oven, but there is NO STOVE. Because this is a historic building, the walls are thin, and the Union Pacific Railroad runs directly across the street, with trains passing through day and night. Many guests find that part of the charm and old railroad-town atmosphere of staying here, but if you are a very light sleeper or looking for total quiet, this may not be the best fit. We provide earplugs and fans in each room to help with sound. There are NO TVs in the rooms. Thompson Springs is a tiny old railroad and mining town with very limited services, so guests should plan to pick up food in Moab or Green River before arriving. There is a 7-Eleven about a mile away that sells pizza and a few basic items. The Desert Moon has a true Wild West past. The old dancehall on the property, the Cactus Cabaret, once served as the town bar and brothel, and the inn itself has welcomed travelers, wanderers, and desert adventurers for generations. Today, the property remains a little wild, a little weird, and full of character. We are also an RV park and campground with 11 acres total, so guests are welcome to enjoy the surrounding grounds while respecting private staff areas. Guest access Guests of the Desert Moon will have access to two shared bathrooms, a kitchenette, and hotel balcony, as well as the surrounding 11 acre property. Other things to note The Southwest Room is a great fit for guests who enjoy historic, character-filled places, artistic and offbeat atmosphere. It is especially well suited to road trippers, outdoor adventurers, and travelers who want a memorable stay with personality. It may not be the best fit if you are looking for a fully private hotel experience, luxury amenities, total silence, or a secluded romantic getaway. Check-in is from 3 PM to 11 PM, and we try to keep 11 PM as the latest check-in so other guests are not disturbed. We may not be available to assist with self check-in issues after 11 PM. Quiet hours are 10 PM to 8 AM. We are pet friendly, but pets may not be left unattended in the room.
