Description
An old industrial building, originally a slate cutting mill making school slates, the house has unique features and loads of quirky character. Hidden away in a wild wilderness garden beside a little stream. A perfect retreat from reality - live slowly, watch nature, detox from modern life. The space Built in the 1800’s as a working mill, connected to the slate quarry and sea port by railway lines, it was abandoned and left empty when the slate industry declined and school slates were no longer used. Turned into a living space during the 1970’s and 1980’s. It’s eclectic mix of styles tells the building’s story. It’s an ‘upside down’ house. From the front door you go upstairs to the living room, dining area and the kitchen…or downstairs to the four bedrooms, bathroom and wet room. It is set in a wild garden that has an abundance of wildlife which we are careful not to disturb and actively encourage where we can. Wake up to birdsong and enjoy the peace of the place. The house is heated with an eco wood pellet boiler which has to be fired up and looked after - it is not like switching on central heating!! It requires attention to maintain it and needs to be kept topped up with wood pellets when it is on. Guest access Guests have the whole house to themselves, a patio and garden, and a parking area. Other things to note The house is an old industrial mill so has steep slate steps from the parking area down to the front door. There are steep drops without railings at various places around the exterior of the house where the water wheel would have been and other fixings. The garden perimeter mostly has no wall or fence - just the natural borders of the stream and trees. So definitely not suitable for young children to be left unattended. Not suitable for wheelchair access. There is room for parking 2 or 3 cars at the house. It’s a small area to turn in so with 3 cars you have to do some coordinated manoeuvres! (It is actually a chiminea on the patio, not a fire pit!)
