Perched in the geographical center of Manitou Springs, Colorado, easily accessible to and just 10 minutes from downtown Colorado Springs and 1.5 hours from Denver International Airport, Onaledge has been carefully preserved and retrofitted with modern amenities, but maintains the old-world charm and beauty. Step back in time - Explore the Ledges. Onaledge is one of three lodges located on the bucolic campus of the SunMountain Center, operated by the Smokebrush Foundation for the Arts, a non-profit organization that produces and presents innovative arts experiences that foster creativity and collaboration in the Southern Colorado community. The Foundation also operates Smokebrush Farm, abiodynamic farm which maintains Onaledge's grounds and grows food and rears animals throughout the campus. Our Lodge has hosted dozens of families and groups from all over the world. The distinctive environment is conducive to retreats, intimate events, and other gatherings. Scores of Yoga, spirituality, health & wellness, permaculture / biodynamic farming, men's, women's and other holistically-oriented groups have selected Onaledge as their special lodging and meeting place. Events. With permission from Lodge management, and for an additional fee, guests can also host intimate, DIY-style events at Onaledge Historic Lodge. Inquire about this booking platform for details. For gatherings and events of 30 or more people, we recommend you contact the separately owned Craftwood Inn next door to Onaledge Historic Lodge, which is a professional, full-service wedding and other events venue. Retreats. in 2024, the Lodge's management company is offering additional service packages to enhance the retreat experience at Onaledge. Inquire on this platform for more details. The Onaledge Historic Lodge building itself is a nationally recognized Arts and Craft era architectural masterpiece. Onaledge's Tudor-style exterior was made from Manitou Greenstone and stucco. Its first-floor interior features large, wood-floored rooms, stone hearths, decorative metal features, cathedral ceilings, and wooden trusses that line the ceiling in visually satisfying arches. Multiple stone patios and decking partially surround the lodge on three sides, along with fantastic views of the Rocky Mountains and surrounding tree-, rock- and ledge-scapes, making the Lodge an ideal space for family and other group gatherings and for intimate events. Read below for more information on special events at Onaledge. Accommodations at the Lodge include two-bedroom/one-bath suites (3) and one-bedroom/one-bath rooms (2). Rooms are large but old-world cozy, and the Lodge can sleep 20 guests, depending on the guests' desired configuration. Ask about changing the setup - fees involved. Guests May Not Move any Furniture. Kitchen and Dining: Onaledge has a commercial Viking stove (with 2 ovens!) and a Stainless side-by-side fridge. There is a kitchen island, with plenty of pots, pans, and cooking utensils. There is also a separate buffet room for serving before one enters the dining hall, fully stocked with coffee maker, coffee, tea, dishware, and silverware for 20. The dining hall has a main table that seats 10, a round table for 4, and an ovular table with seating for 6. Families and groups also have the opportunity to dine outside on the stone porches and wood decks that wrap around three-quarters of the building. The wrap-around porches and deck are full of round tables and chairs, and the front porch has an outdoor ovular table for 2 overlooking the front and full mountain views. Bathrooms: The lodge has 5 spacious bathrooms, with plush towels and hotel-style toiletries provided. Two of the bathrooms have bidets. Four of the bathrooms have tubs, and all have showers. The North exterior of Onaledge Lodge features a large entertaining deck with tables, chairs, and a 10-person hot tub, all overlooking several magnificent greenstone terraces built during the 1930s (reportedly at a cost of over $1M) to line the grounds' North ridge. These terraces are ringed by steps we playfully refer to as "the Manitou InnClimb", which is Onaledge's mini-version of the famous Manitou Incline. Unlike the Manitou Incline, though, the InnClimb is a private venue, and no reservations are needed to hike it. Do the Manitou InnClimb loop 17 times, and you will have hiked the Manitou Incline equivalent, right in your backyard! The terraces are also a great place to host a wedding or other event. Back deck and Hot Tub. Onaledge's back deck is accessible via the buffet room, just off the kitchen and dining room. The deck normally seats 20 guests and contains a hot tub that seats 10. Try the Wide Open Patio on the back Ledge as well! Onaledge Historic Lodge is professionally managed by White Yarrow, a local curator of short-term rental, retreats, and experiences for visitors to Tava (aka the Pike's Peak area). Guests have exclusive access to the entire Onaledge Lodge (3 floors) except the unoccupied basement/workshop. Guests have exclusive access to the stone and wooden decking around the Lodge and have exclusive use of the hot tub. Guests may also access the outer gardens in front of the Lodge and the terraces and steps ("the Manitou Inn Climb") behind the home, though their access to these is not exclusive as staff may be working in those areas of the grounds during guests' stay. Guests can also anticipate staff visits to the basement of the Lodge (via a separate, outdoor entrance) to pick up trash and to handle other routine or emergency maintenance matters. Guests should not wander behind the East to SunMountain Center's Rockledge Lodge unless they are visiting other guests in their party who are staying there or attending Smokebrush Foundation or SunMountain Center programs or activities occurring there. Guests should not go beyond the West chainlink fence boundaries of the property to the Craftwood Inn without the Inn's permission. Guests may not venture beyond the property line at the top of the Manitou Inn Climb/Terraces and to the West as this is private property. Guests may visit the animal enclosure area North and East of the Inn Climb (via the steps) anytime; however, please do not enter the animals' enclosures. SunMountain center has staff on-site during the day and can field via text (use your booking platform's messaging system) or phone any questions you may have about Onaledge, SunMountain, Smokebrush Farm, SunWater Spa, Manitou Springs, or the Pike's Peak area from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Guests should contact the appropriate authorities and SunMountain staff at any time in the event of health and safety emergencies. You may see maintenance or other staff on the surrounding Sun Mountain Center grounds around the building from time to time, but otherwise, we will allow you complete privacy for your vacation or retreat. If you would like to learn more about ongoing programs, activities, and events taking place at SunMountain Center, the Smokebrush Foundation, or Sunwater Spa, check us out on the web or in the appropriate section of the house guidebook. Onaledge HIstoric Lodge is a whole house vacation rental building in Manitou Springs, Colorado. It and its grounds are located within a larger gated, private, retreat center campus known as SunMountain Center. There are two other lodges on the Center grounds East of Onaledge--Rockledge Lodge and the Red Crags. These buildings are not visible from Onaledge Lodge itself, but guests at Onaledge can easily walk to them and participate in various experiential and educational programs they offer. Onaledge and SunMountain Center share a Western boundary with a separately owned wedding venue, the Craftwood Inn. Across El Paso Boulevard from Onaledge is a residential neighborhood. Garden of the Gods is a half a mile North and East of Onaledge (take El Paso boulevard under Highway 24 to Garden Drive or Becker's lane and make a left). Sunwater Spa is 1/2 a mile West of Onaledge on El Paso Boulevard, at the edge of downtown Manitou Springs. Manitou Springs sits on ancient native American healing grounds that rest atop a rare karst aquifer. Nestled in foothills at the base of Tava, also called Pike's Peak or "America's Mountain", Manitou Springs is known for its drinkable mineral springs, waters that pop up throughout downtown. The city of 5,000 inhabitants sits 10 minutes West of downtown Colorado Springs and is an idyllic destination for those seeking to take part in small mountain-town life, in a natural wonderland setting. Two creeks that run down from the mountains convene in downtown Manitou Springs. In addition to its human inhabitants, the town hosts a plethora of wildlife (lizards, squirrels, raccoons, beavers, skunks, birds, deer, bobcats, mountain lions and bears to name a few). A variety of attractions can be found in the area as well. These include Pike's Peak, Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds, the Manitou Cliff Dwellings, several hiking, running and biking trails. Manitou Springs also host several significant events annually, including the Pike's Peak Ascent and Marathon, the Pike's Peak Hill Climb, the Emma Crawford Coffin Races, Manitou Carnivale, The Wine Festival, the Commonwheel Arts Festival, and more. Roll out of bed and take a commute a few steps to the Manitou InnClimb or to a massage, activity or class at Rockledge Lodge next door (climb up the steps East of Onaledge). The Craftwood Inn, a professional boutique (130 people or less) wedding venue, is also right next door (West) to Onaledge. El Paso Blvd. is right out your front door through the entry gate. Walk or bike 1/2 a mile to either Garden of the Gods (Balancing and Ship Rock entrance) East on El Paso or to SunWater Spa (hot mineral water soaking, yoga, treatments) West on El Paso. Downtown Manitou Springs, with its many shops, restaurants and pubs, is about 10 minutes' walk or 2-3 minutes' drive West. Downtown Old Colorado City is 5-6 minutes drive East, and downtown Colorado Springs is 10-12 minutes' drive East along Highway 24 or Colorado Avenue. Since 2012 the Manitou Springs Free Shuttle has ferried folks into town—and through town—to the Manitou Incline. Today there are two shuttle routes: a year-round incline route (#33) and a summer season route (#36) that carries visitors into town from the lodging properties at the east end of town. The all-year #33 route also heads the opposite direction (East) from Onaledge to Colorado Springs via Old Colorado City. Pick up the shuttle at the Visitors Information Center/Manitou Chamber offices 2-3 minutes' walk South on Mayfair Ave (directly across El Paso Blvd. from Onaledge) to Manitou Avenue. Events, including Weddings: Onaledge Historic Lodge, is not a full event venue. We can host retreats, small events, and intimate weddings on the Lodge grounds and at the neighboring Rockledge Lodge building for an additional fee, which varies depending on event size, space needs, etc. For weddings over 25 people, we recommend you contact the Craftwood Inn, a full-service wedding venue next door to Onaledge Historic Lodge. Craftwood Inn does not provide lodging. As guests of the Onaledge Historic Lodge have the Lodge and its immediate grounds all to themselves. However, Onaledge guests can sign up to participate in Smokebrush programs through the Foundation's website. Guests can also walk just a few steps past the top of the Manitou Inn Climb to meet the farm's tortoise, pigs, goats, and chickens while taking in surrounding vistas. Additional private accommodations for individuals and couples are available at the Smokebrush Foundation's Rockledge Manor, which is located adjacent to Onaledge grounds on the Smokebrush campus.
