Nestled down a dirt road, 5 min South of Sandstone, Minnesota which is centrally located between the Twin Cities and the North Shore of Lake Superior. Relax, explore, and make memories at "Gramma’s Place". This rustic log home has 1 bedroom, 1 bath and space to sleep 6 with 40 acres of woods and a trail that links up to state land. Close to charming small towns, along with Banning State Park, Willard Munger State Trail (biking and snowmobiling), and Robinson Park (rock and ice climbing). The space The space - Log house with large wrap around deck. Deck has 4 metal chairs and a table for eating outside. - Large yard with plenty of space to park trailers. - Fire pit with 4 metal patio chairs and table ready for cooking over a campfire. - Eat in kitchen with center island and a table for sitting. Also stocked with coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and condiments and a roll of paper towels and small hand towels. - Small appliance: Drip Coffee pot and filters, toaster, microwave, and hand mixer mini food processor. - Full size refrigerator, induction stove (stainless pots/pans only) and oven, some pots and pans, cooking knives, dishwasher, plates, bowls, glasses, mugs and silverware. - Bedroom has a Queen size bed and smaller flat screen tv. - The library area has a Twin bunk bed (sleeping for 2) and stocked with books for reading, Gramma had a love of reading and learning so many books are reference and or plant / wildlife books. - The large living room has a Queen size futon, and many sitting chairs that can look out over the deck and into the yard. TV with dvd player (not blu-ray). - The bathroom has a tub, with newly installed shower head, (basic toiletries are provided), you will need to walk thru the bedroom to reach the bathroom. Bathtub is an antique clawfoot bathtub that does show its age. Towels are provided. - Washer and dryer are available, please bring your own detergent (no powder please) - We may not have an extensive list of cooking utensils or dining and dishware; but our kitchen has some basic things. If there is something you want, be sure to pack it with. The kitchen fridge and freezer are yours to use. - No smoking and no pets allowed. - Maintenance does live on site and has access to the house basement with a separate entrance. You may see him mowing, cutting wood, ect around the property during your stay. Checklist of things you might want to bring *Food/beverage *bean bag boards *Paper plates / utensils if doing dishes is not your thing. (we do just ask that you take the trash with you as we do not have trash service at the house.) *Board games *Pillows/blankets/towels - We do offer these but may want your own for comfort *Cards *Screen Tent *Ice *Dvds (TV on site has built in DVD player, living room tv only, note: not blu-ray) Guest access The entire upper floor of the house, wrap around deck and yard are all of yours to use, just please stay off the pond. Use of yard and trail (Moe Meadow Road) to State land. There is parking for at least 3 vehicles right outside the house with space for trailers. Stairs into the house and a large wrap around deck. Cell reception can be spotty at times. Basement is un-finished and blocked off from rental use. Maintenance does live on site and has access to the house basement with a separate entrance. You may see him mowing, cutting wood, ect around the property during your stay. We do have trail cameras on the deck, this is to catch wildlife that comes up close to the house (porcupines, raccoons, ect. that like to chew on the log house). This is the reason for the security camera note. These are not accessible thru satellite. We like to think of our guests as friends. Please do what you can to leave the place as you found it. Other things to note - This is an April - October getaway. Dates for the following year will be available after January 1st. - Bring your boat, there are 5 fishing and recreational lakes with public access near by. o Fish Lake o Big Pine Lake o Upper Pine Lake o Grindstone - 200 feet deep and has huge pike, and there are lake trout, smelt, Rainbow Trout, and many species of fish in this neighboring lake. o Lake Eleven - Banning State Park and there are five more Minnesota State Parks within 50 miles including Jay Cooke, St. Croix and Mille Lacs Kathio. - The closest casinos are Black Bear Casino (40 mi.) and Hinckley Grand Casino (11 mi.). - Hard Water Sports in Sandstone offer guided rafting adventures, kayak and paddle board rental on the Kettle River - Willard Munger State Trail is a collection of multiple use trails between Hinckley and Duluth. It consists of interconnecting trails offering hiking, bicycling, in-line skating and snowmobiling. It highlights the picturesque scenery and rich history of East Central Minnesota. The trail follows the route of the railroad that saved many lives in the historic Hinckley and Cloquet fires in the nineteenth century - ATV trails, most county roads in Pine County are approved for ATV’s. There are some state trails to the West direction and Gandy Dancer to the East. Look up state or Pine County ATV Trail Maps. - At Robinson Park in Sandstone they also conduct Ice Climbing and Rock Climbing classes, providing all the needed equipment. - Duluth is 60 miles away. Take the scenic Hwy. 23 (Evergreen Memorial Drive) to drink in the vivid fall colors. - Take a day trip up the Shore of Lake Superior. - Spirit Mountain or Mont du Lac Resort are a short drive away. - St. Croix Historical Society and St Croix State Forest and Park - Game farm: Wings North in Pine City has high ratings for bird hunting adventures and other sportsmen activities - Sandstone Midwest Country Music Theater. Check their site for show info - Local Places to get an adult beverage or enjoy some food.
