Casa Miramar is beachfront and features a breath-taking beachfront infinity edge swimming pool that is the entire width of the property. We have recently renovated the house both inside and out with air conditioning throughout the house. Casa Miramar can accommodate up to 10 people. Then there is no place better than "CASA MIRAMAR" (in Spanish, this means "the house that looks at the ocean") in Chelem, Mexico, located on the Yucatan peninsula. CASA MIRAMAR - Is privately situated right at the beach with breathtaking views of the Gulf of Mexico where you can sometimes see wild dolphins playing. Casa MIRAMAR is all about the view, the water, and the breeze. Enjoy amazing sunrises and sunsets from the multi-level terraces. We have recently renovated the house both inside and out with air conditioning throughout the house. Casa Miramar can accommodate up to 10 people. The 10 guests include visiting day guests. Included are sheets, bath and beach towels for 10 people. For your convenience, body and hand liquid soap, shampoo, and hair conditioner are located in both bathrooms. First Floor: The oceanfront/poolside living room has a large sectional couch that can accommodate 8 people for conversation and drinks. There is a patio door that opens to the swimming pool and beach. The kitchen is fully equipped with a dining table, 6 burner stove/oven, microwave, huge 20 square foot refrigerator/freezer, purified cold/hot water dispenser, toaster, blender, coffee maker and of course all needed utensils to prepare and enjoy a gourmet meal. For outdoor cooking, there is a high-quality stainless steel propane gas grill on the outdoor terrace with all the accessories you need to cook up the perfect meal. There's even an extra gas tank in case you run out of gas while cooking! Included at no extra charge is a 16kg / 35 pound capacity washing machine (laundry detergent included) with an outdoor drying rack. If you don't feel like doing the wash, there is a laundry service conveniently located one minute up the street. The Rubber Ducky laundry will wash, dry, and fold your laundry for a very reasonable price of $20.00 pesos per kilo/USD$.90 per pound. To make your stay at Casa Miramar that much easier, before your arrival we provide you with 2 five gallon containers of purified water, 1 five gallon of purified water that is connected to the cold and hot water dispenser and 2 bags of purified ice. After a long trip when you arrive at Casa Miramar you will be pleased to find in the refrigerator a chilled bottle of white wine, a six pack of Mexican beer, a liter of orange juice, and a liter a coca cola. From our own traveling experience we have arrived at our vacation destination, dehydrated after a long day of traveling with nothing to drink. We at Casa Miramar always go above and beyond to make sure our guests are well taken care of. ¡Enjoy! The downstairs oceanfront/pool side bedroom has a king-size bed, small desk, and closet. There is a patio door that opens to the swimming pool and ocean. The downstairs oceanfront/pool side bedroom also has a 32-inch smart TV (one of three TV's) with Internet TV that gives you a choice of 1000’s of channels from all over the world, 1000's of movies, 100's of TV series and YouTube at no extra cost or membership. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, and more are also available. You will need your membership to access those channels. For your listening pleasure included is a portable/rechargeable combination boom box/karaoke player that easily connects to your cell phone with Bluetooth or directly to a USB Drive/Micro card. The boom box can moved thought Casa Miramar, including the multiple terraces and the swimming pool area. Enjoy your favorite playlist with karaoke option! Off the hallway, there is a full bathroom with a rain forest shower head featuring hot and cold high pressure softened water that makes your skin feel silky smooth. Second Floor: The second floor is an amazing space with incredible views and breezes. The beachfront/oceanfront primary bedroom has a king-size bed and offers direct ocean views on three sides of the room looking north, east, and west. There is a patio door to the upstairs terrace that overlooks the swimming pool and ocean. The upstairs oceanfront/pool view primary bedroom also has a 32-inch smart TV (one of three TV's) with Internet TV that gives you a choice of 1000’s of channels from all over the world, 1000's of movies, 100's of TV series and YouTube at no extra cost or membership. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, and more are also available. You will need your membership to access those channels. Off the hallway, there is a full bathroom with a rain forest shower head featuring hot and cold high pressure softened water that makes your skin feel silky smooth. The third bedroom is a huge space that’s a combination of a third bedroom/second living room. This huge space can be divided into 2 private spaces with a curtain that opens and closes. The second living room section has two king-size sofa beds, a huge glass patio door (15 feet wide x 10 feet tall / 4.5 meters wide x 3 meters tall) that opens to the upstairs terrace overlooking the swimming pool and the ocean. The space also has a 70-inch smart TV with Internet TV (one of three TV's) that gives you a choice of 1000’s of channels from all over the world, 1000's of movies, 100's of TV series and YouTube at no extra cost or membership. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, and more are also available. You will need your membership to access those channels. There is a large dining table that can be used for gaming, drinks, meals, or a workspace. This is a great space for the kids to hang out while the parents can chill in the downstairs oceanfront living room. For family fun, we include a wonderful assortment of board games in both English and Spanish languages. We selected games such as Monopoly, Risk, Jenga, Scrabble, Life, Chess, Checkers, Trivial Pursuit, Trouble, Dominos, Uno, Playing Cards, and many more. The bedroom section of the space has a sofa bed that converts into 2 single beds or 1 double bed. We also include a Pack 'n Play Portable Crib for infants up to 3 years old. Please bring your own linens for the portable crib as we do not provide crib linens. Casa MIRAMAR has reliable fiber-optic high-speed wireless internet connection both indoors and outdoors. Please note: The stairway going up the second floor is a little steep and narrow. It is not recommended for anyone who is handicapped or who has difficulty going up or down stairs. The outside of Casa Miramar, there is the breath taking infinity edge swimming pool that appears to melt into the ocean. There is plenty of space for socializing, both in the sun and in the shade. There are chaise lounges, a sofa, lounge chairs, and hammocks to relax in. We incude 10 beach towels (5 cotton & 5 micro fiber). For more fun we also provide you with an assortment of 2 - 8 foot (2.4 mm) surfboards with oars for paddling around the ocean or to possibly catch a wave, 2 - body boards for body surfing right in front of Casa Miramar, inflatable lounges, an inflatable boat with oars, a water tube, a water basketball game, diving rings, foam noodles, American football, soccer ball, and even an assortment of swim masks and snorkels that you can enjoy in the swimming pool or the ocean. For the infants, there are 2 pairs of water wings to learn how to swim, (ages 3 to 6), plastic pails, shovels, rakes, and sand molds to play with and create sand castles on the beach. On the first floor, there is a covered terrace with a huge expandable dining table for up to 10 people. Here, you can have breakfast and watch the small local fishing boats return from their tours. CASA MIRAMAR is fortunate to have a father and son team of local fishing men who have a small fishing boat of about 14 feet that bring their catch of the day to the shoreline of CASA MIRAMAR They usually return from fishing at about midday. If you desire really fresh fish, just walk over to them and select the fish that you want. The fish are so fresh that they are still jumping in the basket! For a very reasonable cost they will sell you the fish whole or they will clean them and return them to you in about 45 minutes. We have been buying fresh fish from them for the past 10 years. You can't find fresher fish anywhere. At times, schools of dolphins visit as they swim by CASA MIRAMAR, as well as Flamingos, as they fly over the shoreline of Casa MIRAMAR. At the end of the day, you can sit and watch spectacular sunsets in the Gulf. There is also an open section on the lower terrace where you can catch some rays from the sun. If you get tired of lying by the pool, in a hammock, or looking at the ocean view, go out to the beach via the private beach access door. Take a stroll along the sea and pick the most amazing shells that are part of everyday life here in Chelem. If you get hungry, it is always a good idea to pop into one of the many small local restaurants. CASA MIRAMAR is Air Conditioned with individual remote controls in each room. Chelem: The center of Chelem is less than a 10-minute walk from Casa MIRAMAR. Chelem is a small and quiet fishing village situated at the Gulf of Mexico. There are small shops to buy essentials and lots of locally owned restaurants serving fresh seafood, grilled chicken, and more. There are two small churches and a school. There is a new free access sports field only about a 5 minute walk from Casa MIRAMAR that features an outdoor gym and jogging trail around the soccer field. A new air-conditioned gym with all new equipment just opened that is also a 10 minute walk from Casa MIRAMAR. Day passes are available for about $100 pesos (USD $5.00) In the Yucatan: People are very friendly and welcoming. The locals speak Spanish and Mayan. Some speak English, but it is best to have a translation program on your phone. Chelem has many small seafood restaurants where it is very inexpensive to eat. A meal consisting of fresh fish or seafood and a beer does not cost more than $150 pesos per person (USD $7.50). For those who want to cook at home, you can buy the basics in Chelem at the many small stores. Chelem also has four 24-hour OXXOs, which is like a 7-11 store. In Progreso, about 15 minutes by car, there are five large supermarkets including a new Walmart. Merida is about 35 minutes away by car. In Mérida you will find anything that you might need. There is a Costco, Sam's Club, Walmarts, and many well stocked supermarkets. Small shuttle vans from Chelem to Progreso leave from the Chelem town square every 20 minutes. Buses from Progreso to Mérida leave every 20 minutes. Uber or Didi are available in Chelem, Progreso, and Mérida. Guest access: We will leave the keys in the lockbox for 24-hour access when you arrive. There is the Casa Miramar guide book in English and Spanish located on the kitchen table along with an second set of house keys. We will do our best to accommodate you. Chelem is a small fishing village. Infrastructure such as electricity can sometimes cause short power outages. CASA MIRAMAR is equipped with automatic emergency lighting and battery back-up for the internet if the power does go out. --------------------- Guest access Private beach access from the swimming pool area. Walk down 5 stairs and your on the sandy beach, which is very private. Other things to note VERY IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ - AIR CONDITIONING We have recently installed solar panels to help the environment and to save on the cost of electricity. The solar panels produce 25 kw of electricity per day. 25 kw is enough electricity to power Casa Miramar per day including a reasonable amount of air conditioning. If more than 25kw per day is used the electricity will come from the electric company and will be charged at $6 pesos per kwh. Please note: As of yet, none of our guests have exceeded the 25 kw allowance. We will update this publication if a guest exceeds the daily electric usage consumption. If the air conditioning is left on 24 hours a day and set at a low temperature with the windows and doirs open, excess electricity will be used. We choose this electric use allowance of up to 25 kw per day = 175 kw per week because many of our guests choose not to use the air-conditioning because the strong sea breeze that blows through Casa MIRAMAR. How to save on Electric consumption: Be an environmental Hero :-). To save on electric consumption, set the thermostat at a high temperature. In our house, we set the thermostat at 26C/78F. This degree setting is cool, eliminates the humidity in the house, and is very comfortable. During the daytime, leave the doors and windows open. The sea breeze will cool the house. Don’t use the air-conditioning in daytime unless necessary. At night, about 30 min before going to bed, run the air-conditioning to cool the bedroom(s). Remember to have all doors and windows closed. If not, the air-conditioning will not be efficient. Remember to turn off the air-conditioning in the morning.
