Thoreau inspired, tranquil mountain retreat
Thoreau inspired, tranquil mountain retreat
Description
A quintessential "tiny home" experience. Easy car access close to McCarthy. Great launching pad to check out Historic McCarthy/Kennicott and surrounding Wrangell St. Elias National Park. Completely solar powered off grid cabin with all the comforts in an efficient space. Queen size bed in a loft + kitchenette. Sunny porch to contemplate the days adventures! The space This is a clean but small cabin (approximately 100 sq. feet). It is completely off grid, as is the entire community. Here, the water comes from a creek, there is no shower, but there is a heater. We provide filtered drinking water. The electricity is made by solar power so we ask that you are very conservative with it. Please don’t forget and leave lights on. Guest access The cabin is located on a small compound of a few buildings. There is a large field with scenic views to play games in or just enjoy the sound of the nearby Kennicott River. There is also a well placed Hammock, a slack line and frisbees. Other things to note This is a remote community that is completely “off grid” So when I listed 1/2 bath, you should understand that it is an outhouse or privy without a shower. It is a very clean and well lit outhouse and many people that have stayed there think it is my finest building. Please note: we are NOT in McCarthy "downtown" despite Airbnb maps showing this (We've spent hours on the phone with Airbnb support to no avail, sorry!) We are approximately 3.5 miles from the footbridge, on the car side, which means you can drive to our cabin. Directions provided with booking. Access to McCarthy/Kennicott is easily achieved by driving to the footbridge and either walking/biking across or organizing one of the local shuttles. We hope you enjoy our slice of heaven!
