Half Moon: Fairytale Catskills Retreat
Enjoy nature in style at this fairytale in the forest. This idyllic escape combines whimsical structures, curated gathering spaces and a private wooded hillside surrounded by hiking trails and quaint towns. Disclaimer: This is a rustic cabin. Heating is from a wood-burning stove, there is no AC. The bath house is a separate structure from the cabin, up a hillside with stone steps. Cooking is via charcoal grills, small outdoor kitchenette or fire. The space The cabin is cozy mix of antique furniture, discrete technology, steel factory windows and cathedral ceilings. The covered porch is elevated amid the leaves and is the perfect place to enjoy drink while soaking in there serenity of the woods. The cabin is a modern take on it’s rustic ancestor. Cathedral ceilings and oversized factory windows make the space feel light and open. Cedar walls and a cast iron stove make it feel cozy. The bath house is designed to make every visit into a zen-like experience. Abstract cedar geometric frame views to the trees. With the barn doors open, one feels truly in tune with the forest. Every surface in the bath house is finished with cedar. It’s rich to the eye, touch and nose. Large barn doors bring the outside in. From the bath tub, with the creek nearby, one feels truly in tune with the forest. The Pond is a magical addition to a small corner of the land with a view to the distant mountains. An intoxicating place to sit beside a fire at dusk and reflect (or roast marshmallows) The Terrace has outdoor cooking, eating and lounging located in a central clearing. Perfect for relaxation, a dinner or a drink of wine, and stargazing. Cooking A small outdoor kitchenette will have an induction stovetop, a small fridge and basic cooking accessories. There are two charcoal grills - one located at the terrace, and one on the cabin porch. You will find anything you need to prepare an amazing meal on the mountain. The small grill, just in case you want to cozy up on the porch, is located right there on the porch. Also on the porch, inside the little chest you will find the BBQ caddy with spices, oil, knives, ketchup and mustard. Please bring any additional condiments with you. If you run out of something kindly replace it or let us know. The plates and utensils are located in the wooden chest on the opposite side of the window, inside the cabin. Plates and utensils are burnable - you can burn them or throw them away after using. Once you are done please return everything to its home and clean thoroughly after the meals. Please don't eave ANY food out - it attracts animals. The plates and pans can be washed at the outdoor kitchen or the spigot near the cabin. Please do not use soap on cast iron pans. The trash can on the terrace is bear-proof. In order to open it you have to unscrew the lid. Please make sure it is screwed back on after you are done with cooking. Coffee and tea setup Coffee and tea station is in the main space of the cabin. It's a pour-over type, where you boil the water and pour it thought the filter with coffee. Recommended temperature for the pour-over is 195-205 degrees. Creamers are located inside the cabinet in one of the metal containers. Guest access Feel free to explore all 9 acres of the land, including a nice hike up to the top of the hill. Other things to note This is a rustic setting. Heat is provided by the cast iron stove. There is no AC, although it is often quite cool in the forest. You are in the nature, you are in the forest - please be aware that there are many animals around and some may be dangerous. Do not leave any food outdoors.
