Description

Our home is a 300-year-old character house in the centre of Scotland's National Book Town. Wigtown brims with bookshops, including the famous Airbnb experience, and has excellent cafes, antique and curio shops, and two galleries. Located on the South West Coastal 300 route, it is perfectly nestled between beautiful coastal scenery and the Galloway Hills. It boasts excellent access to outdoor activities, the Dark Sky Park, and local whisky and gin distilleries as well as the annual book festival. The space We live in the property year-round, and will be present during your stay as we both work (quietly) from home. Your stay includes private use of an upstairs double bedroom and shared use of both the main upstairs bathroom with shower and bath and the downstairs wet room with shower and toilet. The bedroom has a double bed with all bed linen and towels provided as well as hanging space in a built-in wardrobe and a chest of drawers in the room. Use of the kitchen and dining room during breakfast is encouraged and basic breakfast items such as bread, cereal, fruit, milk, fruit juice, tea and coffee are included in the cost of your stay. Hot, cooked breakfasts can be provided and paid for separately, by arrangement with the hosts. Use of the kitchen after breakfast can be arranged with us, but generally speaking we encourage you to take advantage of all the wonderful places to eat in the area as we're not suitable as fully self-catering accommodation. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer that guests can use if needed, and are included in the cost of your stay. Use of the comfortable living room and wood burning stove is also included. The accommodation comes with access to a large garden with garden furniture and a hammock (weather-permitting!) and a writing studio at the end of the garden. The studio is furnished with a sofa, comfortable chairs, a writing desk and books, and it comes with wifi and mains electricity. It has a small kitchenette with fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster, so it's suitable for daily use and preparation of snacks. Car parking is free and usually very easy to manage right outside the house, although during the annual book festival it's notoriously tricky to find a space in the very centre of the town so do bear that in mind if booking for the end of September or beginning of October. *We have a very fluffy cat called Oscar who lives with us, and is an indoor cat, so this listing is unfortunately not suitable for people with cat allergies or wishing to bring their own pets. The room is otherwise suitable for a single person or a couple who expect to make use of the writing studio or be out most days enjoying the wonderful local scenery and tourism opportunities. Due to the age and chracter of the property, this listing is regrettably not suitable for wheelchair users. People with mobility or access needs should note that the listed room is on the first floor, up a flight of wooden stairs. People with disabilities and/or chronic illness are encouraged to contact us to discuss the space in relation to their needs to see how we can help them with their stay. During your stay My husband and I both work from home so will generally be on hand to help with access and information. Both our mobile numbers will be provided to booked guests. Other things to note This listing has passed all the relevant safety checks and condition reports required for a Scottish Government Short Term Lets License and has been approved by the local authority. This means that the oil boiler, wood burning stove and electrical supply have been all been declared safe for hosting. All relevant electrical applicances have been PAT-tested and there are Scottish Government-mandated smoke and heat alarms on the premises, along with carbon monoxide monitors, a fire extinguisher and a fire blanket. The hosts have the requisite buildings insurance and public liability insurance in place, and there are floor plans of the property available to look at, outlining a fire escape route. This has been checked and passed as meeting the necessary standards by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. The License reference is: DG01271P. This can be verified with Dumfries & Galloway Council. As such, this listing is permitted to accept bookings through Airbnb.
