This cabin is nestled on a private island in the middle of Shagawa Lake in Ely, MN. You will enjoy expansive views of both sunrises and sunsets coupled with the sounds of waves lapping on the surrounding shores. You will enjoy the simplicity of nature just a short boat ride to downtown Ely and all its attractions. This comfortably furnished and modern cabin has one bedroom with a full bed and an upper loft with two twin beds. The new kitchen includes a built in two burner cook top and a propane refrigerator. Equipped with fishing boat with motor, a canoe, a private dock, a gas grill, a state park fire pit, a quiet generator, solar power, battery powered shower head and rainwater collection system. Drinking water, bathroom towels, kitchen towels and linens are provided. The size of the cabin is 450 square feet. The cabin has an open format, with blackout curtains and blinds. There is no running water; potable water is provided - 15 gallons for 4 days, 20 gallons for 5-6 days, and 25 gallons for 7-8 days, etc. The bathroom features a compost toilet, and a vault privy is available behind the cabin. The cabin caretaker will bring you to the cabin upon your arrival. You will be renting the entire island and cabin as a private space. This rental comes with a 14 foot fishing boat and motor. You will meet Pat the caretaker at the Grand Ely Lodge to escort you to the island and also to depart. The Grand Ely Lodge provides our guest parking and access to their dock throughout their stay. We are available for questions via email, and our caretaker, Dave Anderson, will be available to answer questions via phone. "Loon Island" is situated in the middle of Shagawa lake, and has stunning views all around the island. Shagawa Lake is located in Ely, Minnesota, which was rated the 'Coolest Small Town in America' in 2010. There are many attractions, including the North American Bear Center, the International Wolf Center, the Dorothy Molter Museum, the Ely Arts and Heritage Center at the historic Pioneer Mine, the Ely Folk School, Soudan Underground Mine and much more. Ely is known for its Blueberry Festival from July 26th-28th, the Blues Fest from August 29th to September 2nd and the Harvest Moon Festival from September 6th-8th. Our guests are invited to park in the lower parking lot of the Grand Ely Lodge. The hotel only asks that you provide the make and license plate of your car at the front desk. We provide you with a 14 foot fishing boat with a new 4hp Suzuki motor, along with an electric trolling motor. We also provide a 16 foot Alumacraft canoe. FYI: In the State of Minnesota, having a well, running water and flush toilets is not allowed on island like this. Under these circumstances, this translates into somewhat of a back-to-the-basics experience, such as heating up water on the stove for dishes and showers. Similarly, the compost toilet may be a new experience for some. There is a shower head with a built in pump that allows for comfortable showers. Please keep in mind that this is not a normal house in town and these measures are necessary to protect lake water quality.
