Other things to note Run by longtime La Mesa resident Julie, who has called the neighborhood home for over 35 years, this historic gem is now being lovingly reimagined to welcome guests for the first time. Julie is the proud new owner of the Porter House, a hidden jewel of La Mesa, which remained in the Porter family until March 2022. Through her vision and care, this storied property is being transformed into a welcoming retreat while preserving its unique history and charm. Set on a peaceful 0.75-acre property, staying here feels like stepping back in time to La Mesa’s bucolic past. Guests will enjoy the preserved original architecture and special features that make the Porter House one of a kind, including its wrap-around porch, high ceilings, intricate woodwork, and elegant built-ins. Modern comforts have also been added, such as individually controlled heating and air conditioning in each room, ensuring your stay is as comfortable as it is memorable. For those looking to make the most of their Southern California adventures, the Porter House has you covered! Boogie boards, beach towels, umbrellas, and chairs are provided for your beach outings. On-site, enjoy a variety of games, including cornhole, etc. perfect for fun in the large, newly turfed outdoor area. A gas barbecue has been added for grilling, along with patio tables for shaded outdoor dining under the trees. Adding to the home’s rich history is the beautifully preserved art studio on the property, built by the Porter family. The original owners were renowned artists—Mr. Porter was a celebrated sculptor, and his wife a talented painter. The studio remains completely intact, featuring brushes, paints, sculptures, paintings, and other artifacts, offering guests a rare glimpse into the creative lives of its original residents. The art studio is available for viewing by request, providing a unique and inspiring experience during your stay. Julie looks forward to sharing this beautiful piece of La Mesa’s history with you and welcoming you to the neighborhood during your stay!
