Bunk with the Birds -mostly. Sleep in sight of the chickens in this tiny, rustic bunk house. 1/3 of the structure is for the chickens, the other 2/3 is for you - separated by glass. It's a chicken aquarium / PEEP SHOW The Coop has a twin and a full-sized mattress. It is BYO Bedding so come with sheets and/or sleeping bag and pillows. There is a solar charger to charge small devices and run the lamp and fan. The structure is seasonally heated with a Porta Potty near-by, bring a flashlight! This immersive experiential structure is part living space, part chicken coop. A large window divides the sections giving guests a “Peep Show." This Stay for the Farm Curious can include: • Tending pasture-raised poultry • Gathering eggs • Opening the coops in the morning • Putting chickens to bed at night • Potentially wash/pack eggs, given the day (All chores are, of course, optional but you do earn field cred & can sign our big egg cooler.) Chores are done pretty quick with plenty of time for hiking, biking, and skiing local trails, Jay Cooke State Park & near-by Duluth. We offer at-cost gym passes $6 to the nearby Carlton Wellness and Fitness. There you can workout, enjoy a sauna and, of course, shower. An outdoor rinsing station (think shower), potable well water, and a handwashing station is available in season (April-Oct.). Located about 25 miles south of Duluth, MN, our working farm (Locally Laid and Farm Lola) is 45 acres and has over 400 chickens seasonally from mid-April to mid-October. A winter coop hosts about 16 chickens the rest of the year. During the summer, we operate the first US-based commercial honeyberry farm with a 10-acre honeyberry orchard that also includes strawberries and blueberries. Leashed dogs are welcome October through mid-April. We're around and happy to talk all things poultry and also good with giving you your space. It's all good. We are in the country. Our neighbors have horses and there's a dirt road to meander down. There's a gorgeous scenic turnout in Wrenshall looking over the St. Louis River valley. Nearby in Wrenshall is a general store for firewood, snacks, etc. You can take a bike trail to the Charming town of Carlton. There's ice cream, coffee shops, and a wellness center/gym with day passes for $6. They have a sauna, massage bed and showers. It's a lovely rural location about 5 miles from a charming town and nearby Jay Cooke State Park. The name of your cabin is the NEST. BYO Bedding!
