Private, rustic cabin overlooking the Bay
Private, rustic cabin overlooking the Bay
Description
A newly built cabin with an old school vibe. Situated on the hill overlooking the Bay among bamboo and apple trees, a lush succulent garden, rustic with an outdoor heated shower, cosy in winter and light-filled year-round. A walk up from the street, but exceptionally rural and retreat-like for something so close to Central Marin. There is beach access a block away, for swimming, stretching or just sitting and looking out as far as Oakland. The space The cabin is situated at the top of a sloping property with views past trees to the Bay. It is new construction and I created everything except the bones myself. I have been a host for 13 years and I love making rentals that feel like art spaces. I also love repurposing materials and you'll see that in every aspect of the cabin. You have to go past the main house and two sets of stairs spread out over three patio areas. The cabin has its own sizable outdoor space - a patio and a landscaped yard. There is a total sense of remove from the street and in fact the whole of Marin, with neighboring yards and the vista of San Quentin Prison's legendary architecture as the surrounding environment. It's a great place to feel like you're far from the activity of the Bay Area while being a couple miles from Central Marin, blocks from the Richmond Bridge that goes straight to Berkeley, Oakland and beyond to San Francisco via the Bay Bridge. I have learned to add that the prison is not close, is considered minimum security with no reported 'escapees' in decades. It's just that the feature of having it close means there is zero crime here, and also it's a good reminder of our own freedoms on the outside. In reality the inmates are doing a fair amount of soul searching and attempting to rehabilitate, and I find that inspires us in the area for some of the same reflection. Over the years I have tried to anticipate people's complaints: there is only an outdoor shower, the cabin is 8 x 12 (small), there are stairs to climb, the water pressure of the sink (not shower) is low, I have dogs who are friendly and cute and can be around, there is no refrigerator or table in the room (there's a lot of room outside for eating or food prep), the neighborhood in general has nocturnal light from the prison, I only host singles and couples, not friends traveling together, and not outside guests are allowed on the property. I hope you read this far, because I really would like any guest to know all these caveats. There are a lot of specifics in your arrival notes to help you find the house and parking, and I try to make it easy for both of us - and other guests in the Airbnb room off my house - to have a great stay. The cabin's title is 'RUSTIC,' and my rates are priced to accommodate that. In Marin County, an extremely expensive enclave, I am considered very affordable, and I ask you to keep that in mind if you book. I have tried to offset any quirks with low prices (Airbnb and the hotel tax add to it, unfortunately), and I am booked 99% days of the year. Guest access You have a private cabin with indoor sink and toilet (the latter is in its separate space with a door). There is an outdoor shower with hot water, although you can't take a bath due to the size of the water heater. While open air, it's got a metal surround and no one passes through the yard - except the occasional bulldog. There are patios for your use behind the cabin and in front of it. A tiny art studio across the yard from the cabin is used sparingly, not to confuse you to think that it's another accommodation or that you will lack privacy here. There is no fridge in the room or access to mine which is always packed, and no laundry. Parking is always available directly in front of the house on the street - on rarest of occasions across the street - and it's very safe here because there's a prison guard 200 feet away from the car area. You can leave valuables in your locked car, if necessary. During your stay I am a busy/introverted person who works from home as an artist. I try to be available for problems that arise, and I feel genuinely grateful for the guests and business, but most of what I have done to welcome you is to create peaceful, beautiful spaces at an affordable price for the area. I am not great with extra requests because I am in my 13th year of hosting and like to keep things simple. Of course, if there's a problem, I am home a lot and will try to help. I prefer to solve the problem than to get dinged in a review after the fact. I write a lot of details in my listing and arrival notes solely to try to anticipate your concerns before you book, or come onto the property. Honestly, a bad review can ruin my day, and if you are prone to being critical, I am just not the host for you, please don't stay here. *I'm* prone to being critical, but because I know that I stay at bland motels when I travel ;). Please review the details of the rental and the rules. I want your stay here to be without surprises. Oh, and I have three bulldogs and an old white husky. Most of the time the bulldogs are inside, but any dog you encounter is friendly (too?). Other things to note I ask for an hour's notice before you arrive, because sometimes I haven't cleaned yet because of my schedule. Please be ecological and turn off heat/fans when you leave to go out, and when you check out. Airbnb makes it a bit vague about when you can check in: it's self-check in using arrival info, anytime after 1 pm. Check out is 10 am, please observe that or ask for late check out ($10 additional for noon). There are arrival notes that direct you to my house and about parking. Because I have neighbors it's important you make sure you are going into the right property (this should not be difficult to sort out) and not parking in their driveways. The details are spelled out when you book in a reply email. There is no stated cleaning fee, but there will be a charge via Airbnb if I have to do more than change the linens and vacuum the floors. I do my own cleaning, which is how I can offer you lower prices, and I appreciate your thoughtfulness about not making me clean up after you as if it were a motel. If there is a food mess, stuff moved around without being put back where it goes, maybe throwing towels on the floor like our teenage years...then there's a breakdown of me being your maid for a relatively cheap $25/hr. On the other hand, since I clean everything myself, and have full occupancy nearly every day of the year, there are definitely occasional lapses in cleaning or omission of towels/soap/dog stuff removal. If I miss something, just point it out and I'll come handle it. I want you to feel at peace. I want that more than I want a 2 star review for there being dust under the bed (a recent occurrence that really killed my spirit). Please don't stay here if you would do something like that! I am a clairvoyant and astrologer. I offer readings to guests for $100/hr. and can usually accommodate your schedule. I have a website you can checkout, search Lisa Star/Resonant Truth (no links allowed here!).
