Description

This private apartment is one of 3 accessed via an indoor courtyard (atrium), all set in a self built Eco house, surrounded by woods, gardens, fabulous art and artists, scrap, workshops, walks, etc... if you are in need of creative inspiration or encouragement, or you just want a quiet couple of nights in the country - that's us!! We are 10 miles from Bath and Bristol. Close to Glastonbury, Wells, Stonehenge. Perfect for creatives wanting to get to know this part of the world better The space This apartment has a double bed with en suite bathroom, plus self-contained kitchen (please don't bring meat) and capacity to sleep 2 others on a fold out bed/settee. There is a communal bathroom just next to the room in case you don't fancy the kids, or your friends walking through your bedroom to get to the en-suite. The hosts live in the same building. What makes it unique ? Well, what doesn't? First of all I would suggest reading some of our reviews. We are very proud to have over 1000 reviews across our 3 listings, and you won’t find many that are unhappy :-). Rockaway is a fairly unique location and any rudimentary search of the internet will tell you so. There are probably not many places like this (in England at least)... It's more like a West Coast USA house as seen in Lloyd Khans amazing books (look him up). This is our own self-built eco house set in 5 or 6 acres of its own land. The house itself is in a private area, and is very quiet and borders on to our fledgling forest/community garden, but within the grounds of the overall property there are many other spaces including a vegan cafe , workshops for metal, woodwork, recording and rehearsal studio, screen printing studio, gig venue, The Chapel of Unrest, a huge and eclectic collection of obscure artefacts from aeroplanes to gypsy caravans, and anything in between!! Guests are very welcome, and indeed encouraged to have a look around and get involved with any, all ,or none of this. If you just want to go and sit on the swing in the garden and stare out across the views, you are more than welcome. It is also home to upwards of 20 other people who are engaged in work with circus/ festivals and events management. There is solar hot water/electric and much more being added daily. There is always something new at Rockaway! If you're looking for somewhere fastidiously neat and tidy or you're scared of spiders it's probably not for you , but if you like what you see, we'd love to have you here...., (although of course we do our best to keep it neat and tidy, I am just trying to put off really fussy guests :-) We like to think we understand the ethos of Airbnb and the desire to change the world for the better by encouraging conversation and the sharing of ideas. We have found the whole experience to be thoroughly rewarding and we hope you will too. Please note we have other rooms available in the house, and we are able to accommodate extra people, so if you're traveling with kids or friends and think our listed rooms are too small to fit all of you, please enquire. Look forward to meeting you. Mark and Marta Guest access Our vegetable/forest garden with a benches and a dining table overlooking the area (with fantastic views) welcomes visitors too :-) There are a couple of footpaths crossing the land for instant access to more countryside, and a small waterfall a short distance away in Greenfield Woods. You are also more than welcome to visit the rest of the Rockaway site where you will find loads of interesting things!! There is off-road parking throughout the site, though it may be busy during events. Please let us know if you are arriving in big vans etc. During your stay We're open and happy to play by ear, also depending on our guests' preferences. Other things to note Coffee and tea included in the room. We ask that no meat is cooked in the house. Our vegan cafe serves breakfast from 9am (not included in the price of the room). We rent out other rooms in the house, so if you're looking for a space for more people, please get in touch or look on my profile for other listings. Our full address: Rockaway House Eastcourt Rd Temple Cloud BS39 5BU If you're driving you can find us via GPS/sat nav as Rockaway House, although please note our lane has a sharp angle and you can't turn into it coming on Eastcourt Rd from the A37 direction. You need to go to the end of the road, turn around and come back the other way Coming south from the A37 from Bristol, it's better to turn left in the village of Temple Cloud into Temple Inn Lane (opposite Texaco garage). Follow the road through the houses and down the hill into the countryside and you'll come to a T junction, at which you turn right. Follow the winding lane for one mile and then take the next right into Eastcourt Rd under the bridge. Follow the road up the steep hill and sharply round to the left. After about 500 meters you'll see a right turning up a steep hill with a hanging sign saying Cloudhill Commercials and a wooden one for Rockaway. Follow the track up the hill and turn sharply to your right and the house will be in front of you at the end of the driveway. Park on the right hand side if possible.
