Description

5 miles from Bandera, on a hill above the river and well out of flood zone, our vintage lodge has two unique buildings built in the early 30’s. The rock main house has kitchen, LR, 1 king BR and sunporch w/ 2 twins; the frame annex has 2 bedrooms, 1 king 1 queen, and a huge “celebration room” (extra charge) for group events. Our area of the river never stopped flowing during brutal recent summers, unlike other parts of the Medina. As of 5/28/2026, the water is clear & high enough for tubing. The space The house is on three acres, on the edge of a hill sloping down to the Medina River. 99 winding stone steps lead down to the water, so that tubing, canoeing, fishing, and swimming are truly right on the property. (Because of the river access stairs, the lodge isn’t ideal for the mobility-impaired, elderly, or for toddlers so ask for details before booking.) The three acres are flat except for the riverside hill--great for games, wildlife watching, and stargazing. It has fireplaces in both kitchen and living room, outdoor chimney-style barbecue pit, a huge (garage conversion) rumpus room good for bigger gatherings, a swing set, and a magnificent view especially in the fall and winter. We have finally added wifi (bring your own apps haha) and also have a huge DVD/video library so you can enjoy a vintage movie film festival. Mental images? Think rustic, clear water, vintage buildings, classic Hill Country, wildlife, cowboys, fragrant air, rock walls. Our little 4 year old Holly looked around the cedar-beamed kitchen on Thanksgiving, and asked “Kacie, why are there trees on the ceiling and rocks on the walls?” Guest access Cars and motorcycles and on foot...are about it. Plenty of parking. We’ve never had guests arrive on horseback, but you can BYOHorse if you feel like it. Other things to note The July 2025 flooding only affected us briefly and lightly…just enough to clean out the river. As of 8/15/2025 it was as pretty and as high as it’s been in years…tubing was great! Newest detail is that following damages from a big storm in November 2023, we added an additional patio, a riverview gazebo, and a 450 sf open “celebration room” if you want to have a big group for holiday dinners (if you need use of this let us know in advance; there is an extra charge for it because of added setup efforts necessary.) We have recently added wifi for your laptops and iPads. Cell service in this area is great. There is also a perfect quiet workspace (a county library) nearby if you need to go connect, type, print, zoom, and so on. But truthfully we hope everyone will keep coming here to unplug and enjoy the country! This vintage country house is low tech and many think that’s part of its appeal.
